I sat in horror and watched as i was told to scrap *almost* everything I've done on the project this past week in favour of an entirely new design

Maybe it goes deeper than this, but I believe you are referring to the term "knockers". Not just a British slang term anymore.Originally Posted by limey

You are correct - though I've really never heard that expression used on this side of the pond, outside of the BritCom hour on PBS...Originally Posted by ServiceGames
TBH you'll never hear it on this side of the pond either unless you are time warped back to the 1970's or have some fascination for Benny Hill & Carry On films....phwooooaaaaaarrrrrr! :fresh:Originally Posted by limey

Heh. As it happens, I remember the likes of BH & the Carry On crew very well. In fact, the last time I came back from a visit to old blighty, I was loaded down with DVD's of various things not then released over here, including a bunch of Carry On flicks, Danger Mouse, The Professionals, amongst other stuff. I have to say that I was amazed when I found the clean, wholesome & usually very PC, PBS stations here showed BH, after his near complete banishment from British TV. A&E even came out with NTSC boxsets of the TV shows.
Benny Hill was apparently well received in France after being banished from the UK airwaves. The likes of Mary (God rest her soul) Whitehouse (aka Wholesome TV meddler) did their utmost to turn British TV into something akin to Radio 4.Originally Posted by limey
This weekend the F word appeared on several occasions during the live performances of "Live Earth". Jonathan (W)Ross was going nuts and apologising left, right & centre. The most dramatic being during Genesis playing. Phil Collins, clearly still pissed at his ex-wife decided to add to the lyrical content of Invisible Touch by shouting "even though she'll FUCK you up!" directly to camera. First act, third song. The BBC Executives must have been spitting out their wholegrain museli and shouting "GET ME ROSS!"
From then on, most artists decided that the F word should feature heavily. When will the BBC ever learn to use time-delay equipment in live feeds?
Ah.... Dangermouse! Now that and Trap Door remain classics!
dont forget bananaman and count duckula!Originally Posted by Parris

OOooo, I almost forgot Count Duckula! That was a classic too.Originally Posted by diddydonn
Agreed! Count Duckula was another Cosgrove Hall product, like Dangermouse. I barely remember Bananaman, though.Originally Posted by Parris
Since this thread is mutating into a classic Brit shows one - do you know if they ever released all of The Goodies onto any home video format? Apart from a classic episodes DVD & a couple of VHS tapes (one of which I possess, though it's dying), I've never seen/heard of more getting released, even just in PAL...:-(
my father in law has the complete collection of the goodies on dodgy dvds and all the raiodplays as well, not surw about the quality of them though

How did he get them? I'm guessing they're from VHS/beta recordings made off air, since, to the best of my knowledge, most of the shows haven't been repeated in years & probably not since home DVD recorders were widely available.Originally Posted by diddydonn
i wouldnt have a clue to be honest, but more than likely he purchased them from some dodgy dvd seller onlineOriginally Posted by limey
next time im round there ill borrow them off him and let you know what the quality is like

oops forgot cant re-edit posts, if you have a look around some of the torrent sites online they have quite a few available for download, not that im condoning the use of such sites, but for the purposes of old tv shows that will nevwer see the light of day otherwise im sure it would be acceptable

Count Duckula eh??? class..
How about Thundercats though? or the Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon.....
Chuck Norris owns the greatest Poker Face of all-time. It helped him win the 1983 World Series of Poker despite him holding just a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
always hated thundercats, although the upcoming live action version looks interesting,Originally Posted by Festerfly

I never missed an episode of Ulysees when I was a kid. Hated Thundercats for some reason, but used to argue that one with my cousin. She still likes it.
Dungeons & Dragons was pretty cool. Ialso used to watch Stig of the dump and The red hand gang.
Ultimately, we are all heading towards the one programme though... Tripods! That was a stunning kids programme!

Go to the main BBC link and see the opening sequence. Great MIDI effort for it's age.
