What voltage does the NES like?

Scored a cheap NES without cables today, and am looking for information about what voltage the unit wants to start.

According to this page it should be fine to just use a ordinary DC voltage above 5V, even though the original adapter is AC.

Anyone has done this and can confirm it?
Seems like it shouldn't be very hard to find an adapter in that case.

I can't confirm it, but a fellow NES dev person said the NES can accept 9V AC or DC, so it's pretty versatile. It converts it to DC internally, of course.

Oh well, 9V DC converters are cheap, and so was the NES (about $12) so I'll try it I guess.

The voltage is rectified internally (I presume full wave) this means that current must travel through two diodes, each have a .7V turn on. The voltage regulator requires 7V for good regulation. So you should use a supply of at least 8.4V. Whether or not you can use DC I don't know, I don't see why not.

You can use DC or AC. The Genesis 1 power supply works fine. However the NES power supply won't work on the Genesis 1 cause it wants DC. Basically just go to radio shack if you don't have a Genesis 1 power supply.

Yeah I just got a switchable power supply with an assortment of heads from RS. Works like a charm.
