Well, according to the Wiki I just read, Germany hates anything that brings up their dark history.
Dont know anything about them, but I read Germany thinks they are Nazis.
Thats why they are popular here cuz of their pro-nazi lyrics...
Listen to the music and make yourself a picture. Lyric-wise they are freaky, with some parts which could be interperated a pro-naziwise. As madhatter stated, they are pretty popular in other parts of the world. A lot of people here think they are only some wackey hardcore heaymetal band with a slight "nazi-touch". I never understood the meaning of their songs combined with their videos anyway. Not my knd of band I listen to.
I would guess that very few of their international fans know what the lyrics are saying, people like them because they are different in sound. The English translations I have read and heard are terrible in content, but I didn't spot any Nazism in them, they're just plain lame. Has anyone got any links?

I dont want to sound political nor take sides -because I'm anti-war (any war) in general-but history is writen by the winners, all these talks about "bad nazis" could be attributed to any kind of opressor from any war that was made to expand a nation's country. Saying about germany's "Dark" history is the equivelant of saying that the Mongols are ashamed of Gengis Khan - who I can assure you had slayed proportionaly more people in every brute way imagineable.
Regarding Rammstein..well I remember their music back when it was just a techno-industrial band with some KMFDM influences that made them into the hard sounding industrial metal that they are now. Lyrics or not, some songs do have a catchy tune and they have good marketing, since its rare for non-metal fans to like or even know metal bands in this day and age.
Ramms+ein is not a naziband. one of my former friends were fan of nazi punk, and other insane stuff, from Panzerfaust records. And he even tried to give me a CD with one of those crazy bands. And hmmm I thankfully forgot the CD at his place.
Das Model is a Kraftwerk cover, Stripped is a Depeche Mode cover, and of those songs I have heard, and that is quite alot of their own songs I have heard, then I can only say, they aren´t nazis.
They are not metal, as many people think, they are really just industrial of some sort.
But I prefer calling them heavy electro sometimes.
Heck, you could call Manowar, for neonazis, or very influenzed by the norse mythology, like the nazis were, among other stuff. And a freakish thing is, the "arian" with his blond hair and stuff. was really a fictional Scandinavian. And I could go on, and on about those things, since history has an intrest to me, and if you want to buy Mein Kampf in German, uncensored, then you can buy it in Denmark. But enough of that.
Peace
