Nintendo Revolution: Name To Be Changed, June Release?

We think everyone’s pretty happy with the name Nintendo Revolution. It’s got pull, it’s got cred, everyone knows what you’re talking about — that beautiful opalescent system with the magic wand controller that lets you sword fight or strum an electric guitar in parallel with your character on screen. Nintendo would be stupid to change the name at this point — everyone wants the Revolution, not the Electric Nintendo Fairy Protuberance 20X6 or whatever Big N’s marketing weirdos dream up. Yet rumors are circling at GDC that change the name of the Revolution, Nintendo may! Also abuzz upon the GDC rumor mill — that the Revolution may very well ship this June, making the Playstation 3 the last console to ship this generation.

According to Gamecloud, all will be known as soon as Saturo Iwata makes his key-note speech on Thursday. Ladies, start twittering gossip amongst yourselves. We’ll update you on Thursday.

I still think that will have zero effect on the ps3's selling potential.

Yeh. I doubt that if the PS3 is the last console for this generation it would not hinder its predictable market dominance.

THe PS3 delay was inevitable, and I doubt the Nintendo will be released June. THey haven't even released full specs of the console, as well as Sony. This stuff is usually released at least 6months before the actual release of the console.

This year's E3 is going to be big with Sony and Nintendo finally announcing their final product specs and other relevant info. Just wait until E3.

And then it was the Ultra 64. Same with the Gamecube, it was Dolphin for a long time.

I hope to G-d they change the name. That's a horrible name for a consumer product. The revolution is an irresistable force fro change in society, it's not something squawling brats pester their parents for until they buy it at the local mall for $199.

Anyway, not everyone knows the Revolution. A tiny fanatical minority of the system's eventual user base knows all about it, another larger group has heard about it and many have never heard of it at all.

The only thing revolutionary about this so called revolution is the controller. Having said that, I am eagerly awaiting its release, though I hate the name and I'm hoping they change it.

"In order to compete with the numerical brand names popularized by the Sony Playstation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo has decided to rename their upcoming console from the Revolution to the NES 6-5000."

the "revolution" has always been a code name. This is like saying that microsoft is going to rename xenon... I thought it was well known that nintendo would come up with a final name.

wait to know everything before making conclusions. Nintendo said themselves that the wand wasnt the last secret, and i doubt they would release the smallest bomb at the end. They could, but that would be stupid, especially considering why they arent revealing everything yet.

And i do hope they stick for revolution. Its a cool name, and everyone know the machine by this name by now. Remember that they said DS was only a code-name too.

I am actually hearing the students (middle schoolers) referring to the "Revolution" now...and it would be a shame for all that "advertising" to go to waste. Why change the name now?
    how about:
    Nintendo Remote-lution
    Nintendo SH (single-handed)
Nintendo Tv-game "50,000" games in one!
    Nintendo Devolution
    NES 5
Nintendo BY MASAI 5 (beg your mommy as she appraoches isle 5)
Nintendo SOGWAK (shunning older gamers with asinine kiddy-games)

yeah, i think it would be a waste to change the name, from a marketting stand point.

Maybe Nintendo is realizing that this console won't be a "revolution" after all. What about "Futurna?"

The name sounds silly while saying that to myself.

    NintedON:lol:

Now really, revolution is a risky word nowadays with the war and all, it has become sinonimous to "left wing" and troublemaker people.

Anyways, maybe with the name change we well see the end of those half-assed, Che-like miyamoto tshirts.

Thank you. Nintendo has stated time and time again that Revolution is the code name. Now, there IS a chance that Nintendo will keep the name like they did with the Nintendo DS (DS was a temporary name and was also code named Nitro at one point). In the end though, the name doesn't matter all that much. I hated the name "Dreamcast" but the system is one of my favorites. And who really likes the "360" in the "Xbox 360" name? It's all about the games.
