HD textures are big... if they are trying to use it for avoiding loading time they'll need LOTS of spaceOriginally Posted by Mark30001

Ah, that explains some. My mindset is still stuck in the "8 MB" PS2 days where gamesaves weren't that much in size, though this HD idea seems great for cutting down the loading time in newer games...Originally Posted by karsten

’m sitting in a press Q&A with Phil Harrison. He’s talking, and not talking, about the Playstation 3. First, he declined to talk about whether the hard drive will be included in the PS3. Instead, he said that all PS3 games will require the hard drive.
“Hard disk drive is a key feature for the Playstation 3. It is a key feature of the platform.
Developers are designing their games to support a hard drive. Every single game will support a hard drive.”
I find it a bit frightening that he wouldn’t confirm that the HD would be included.

I'd take it with a grain of salt right now but if true, wow, just wow.

PS3 Games will be Region-free! Awesome :icon_bigg

I like different region games that always have that extra difference/secret which is always exciting to find, like the US SMB3 and Japanese SMB3.
Plays PS1 and PS2 games in high definition
All game will be region free (as opposed to a few on 360)
A special cpu with seven active cores (vs 360's six simultanius processes)
Comes with a hard drive
Runs blue ray discs (which all games will come on)
Can output to two tvs at once
Supports seven controllers simultaniously
Has its own XBox Live type service, but free!
Sounds like PS3 is set to be gods gift to gaming.

Hope the PS1 emulation goes a step further. Some games look very good using the Smooth texture technique on the PS2, but some look terrible (probably because of the higher resolution).Originally Posted by Fabrizo
The PS3 can easily make something like Bleem and not just smooth textures / polygons.
As for region free, nice way to go. No more need to modchip it to play imports.

Not so fast, I don't think its offical it comes with the HD.
Show me how a 7 person game works. Whats the point in 7 controllers if its turn based. You really want to split a screen 7 ways?
PS2 supported two screens and like 3 games were coded to do it. Who owns one let alone two 1080p tvs? Pointless really.
As for the processors, the horsepower gain has proved minimal to 360, besides is more power really whats needed (see Nintendo, the DS is a dog of a machine compared to the PSP, but has much, much better games.)
Also wait untill you see a price before declaring gaming nirvana.

the price wont be too out of line. Sony wants the ps3 to sell for more than one reason.
If all games require the HDD, then the system comes with it, otherwise the system is a paperweight.Originally Posted by handles25
Party games mostly. Also, if split screen is needed, that would be where the duel tvs come into play. Not that I expect that feature to be used much.Show me how a 7 person game works. Whats the point in 7 controllers if its turn based. You really want to split a screen 7 ways?
I agree, but I would also argue they can't possibly cram all that goodness into it for $400 and ever hope to come out of the red on console salesOriginally Posted by Johnny Vodka

Phil himself did say today all games would require a HD, he did not say ps3 would ship with one. Matter of fact he dodged the hell out of the question and yes that would make it a paper weight, so why didnt he come out and say "yes it will ship with one" to ease peoples minds? I really doubt it would ship with out but just to play devils advocate, its not 100% confirmed
I'm just saying Sony has a lot of questions to answer still.

The most retarded thing in the world is having bluetooth for controlers and only being able to have 7 of them.
Secondly I doubt the ps3 can keep its gfx up if it has to display 720p on two tvs. I cant even think about 1080i/p.
I mean how do you play a 7 player fps.... one screen will be split into 3 hence the omg i want the top screen bitching and how do you have fair teams...

yes, but if they even get half of the ps2 base to buy a ps3, the bluray cash will roll in from the movie sales and licensing fees and the such....Originally Posted by handles25

Big if. Could be a huge debacle. Honestly most consumers don't even know DVDs are not in high def and don't really care, its good enough for them. They dont want to spent all that money on new players and disks, they just did that the last few years, look how long it took DVD to really catch on.

Agreed. My mom just switched from vhs to dvd about two years ago, and only did so because it was getting hard to find vhs tapes for new movies where she lives. She wouldn't switch to a new format if I told her that every one had a 1/500 chance of containing a winning lottery ticket...made of gold.Originally Posted by handles25
