Strange Pc error, maybe you can figure it out.

Mind you I'm really good with computers. So this error is pissingme off as there's really no info on it.


Just installed a new mb, and a new os.

So every day, the time changes by hours.
Windows sync times out or does not work.

so I corrected it manually, and turned off sync
with the time servers

So I still get the inaccuracy.

So it's either RTC is fucked on the MB
or something else.

Mem and cpu are both oc, but I can't see that affecting the irq for rtc.

anyone else have any ideas besides the mb error?

Could be the oc, but that wouldn't leave you off by hours per day (i've seen designs where the clock cycle was based off of the FSB, which is a terable design...). As for windows time sync, that's usually a router problem.

I would lean towards a bad mobo, just like you said...

If the time is out of sync from other systems, then maybe the CMOS battery could be bad? Try switching it out with a new one and see if that stops the time from being out of sync.

Like hatter said it could be the Cmos battery. Check the bios to see what time its reporting as well. Also make sure your in the right timezone, even after the time is adjusted. If we find that windows is adjusting your region it could be an anoying virus or something like that.

Same thing happens on my comp every couple of days. It'll go back wither 3 or 4 hours randomly, and I just manualy fix it once I notice and forget about till next time.

Yeah, that was what I was going to suggest also. Does it just go off by a few hours, or does it default to a specific time everytime you boot up? Because if it defaults then the battery is probably dead.

I dont think it would help but before switching out the battary you could pull the cmos jumper and reset it. If that doestn work replace the battary. And if all else fails you may try flashing the mobo bios up to the newest version, should be able to find it at the manufacturs website.

i remember some old gigabyte board 586hx or so that had a combined realtimeclock+battery very expensive to exchange (something in the 20-40$ at that time) and they did regulary after 3 years on the month (had 4 of them from various people exchanged)

so maybe you can give us a insight which board it is ?
