Not long after Electronic Arts announced plans to lay off a number of workers worldwide, Activision has confirmed to Wall Street Journal that 7% of its global workforce is being phased out. "We are doing a strategic, targeted reduction to better align our headcount against strategic targets," said an Activision spokesman. Chances are the company's simply trying to prepare itself for the lengthy transition to next-generation as the new consoles start building themselves a proper userbase.
The layoffs reportedly started last week in both the US and Europe, and Activision is still working out the final steps. With about 2,000 employees, the 7% cut would mean roughly 150 people are on their way out from the Tony Hawk publisher.
Good luck to the 150 workers soon to be cleaning out their desks.
