    How much of you....

really feels the need for HD games and tv?

personally i'm more than satisfied with dvd quality and i think that games will get better looking thanks to 100x poligon count, better texture and 3 models, not HD...

    so i don't, but i'm a weird one :D i mean, i hate the 16:9 standard too....

16:9=good (closer to how eyes see things, and just works in many games), but I really don't see the point in spending a grand or so on a new tv just so things look prettier.

I'm for the wider 16:9 playng field, but it doesn't necessarily have to be HD. I want true 480p widescreen, though...the kind that's 856 by 480, not the faux stuff in RE4 GC. Widescreen just makes me happy for some reason..

HD lets you notice the finer details you can't see in dvd quality.

I'm fine with HD in games, just as long as they still support the ol' composite/RF output.

There was a thread on a rumor of how the Revolution would have an alternate to HD which got me hyped up for a while. I think the problem is that most video gaming consoles are trying to be the same as another, then upgrade what they have. There really needs to be a console which tries to be "unique" in its own way.

I like the way companies are changing the standards in video games to things some people cannot afford...

I'm a bit of a image quality Nazi, so 1080P is the only way to go for me. It's a question of whether the source material, be it broadcast, HD-DVD or games, are going to be up to it. The latest HDTVs are ridiciously expensive (in the UK at least), but then it's the same with all new technologies. I wouldn't be surprised if the prices don't drop a significant percentage between now and the PS3 launch.

Well I bought a widescreen HDTV (for less then $300) so I could take advantage of it on 360 and PS3. I never used to care about such things, but after using one for a while (a room mates) I didn't want to go back. Though im perfectly happy with basic progressive scan when 'true' high def isn't available.

I don't care about HD, I don't have a television that can display such graphics so there. I do care about originality, playablity and replayability...

I honestly can't tell the difference between anything higher than S-Video quality, so all this fancy h-def garbage is just a load of crock to me, and sometimes I wonder if as many people can really tell the difference or if it's simply a matter of not wanting to be the guy who 'doesn't get it'.

I also hate the 1.78:1 (16:9) aspect ratio for one simple reason - with some current exceptions, what shape have our TVs been since antiquity? More or less square, with a 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. Widescreen, unless you have a widescreen TV, robs one of screen real estate, and makes the picture smaller. Especially on my 14" TV, that's a heck of a difference. The fact of the matter is, regardless of whether movies are displayed in 16:9 in the theater (they're not; theatrical aspect ratios are 2.39:1 or 1.85:1), none of the movie is 'lost' as widescreen proponents claim; the movie is formatted to fit normal fullscreen televisions through editing - hence the warning preceeding each and every widescreen movie that it has been modified from the original.

It's just another thing to spend insane amounts of money on, as well. My 14" TV with mono composite inputs and my old Toshiba Nuon DVD player work just fine, and I see no reason to scrap them for a piece of equipment that would cost in excess of a month's rent - assuming I could even fit it in my room.

HDTV does make a huge difference, and I can definatly see a huge improvement in almost all games using Component SDTV vs HDTV. It really does make a big difference.

HDTV is nice, but it's still waaaaaay too expensive for what you get. For all intents and purposes, I'm still incredibly happy with standard NTSC. Maybe when 2009 comes around things will be tolerably priced, but I think it's absolutely morinc to spend thousands on a TV...espcially when you have about 10 perfectly working older models around.

I think it's extra stupid for me to go HD as someone who tends to gravitate towards older games. I assure you that NES Tetris isn't amazing in HD. RGB is great, but we don't use it in the US, so I settle for whatever else is available...and honestly, most of the time, that's composite. It really doesn't look that bad.... The only thing I don't like it on is Neo Geo...as some weirdness occurs due to it not being in RGB.

I could live without HD for the next years, no need to hurry and buy expensive electronics for now

i must say that i was truly impressed by the xbox 360 in high definition. I played COD2 And PGR 3, and it looked incredible. I think its be because of the switch to 16:9 AND high def combined. But you play games to have fun, and are games funnier in High def?

i've tried the 360 on my standard 4:3 flat tv (non lcd) with an rgb cable and it doesn't seem to show THAT difference with the one in HD screen i've seen in shops...

and anyway, since 100% of the games i love are on 4:3 i doesn't like the idea of wasting THAT MUCH moneys on something that would make all my old games look like S**t... i mean FFT on 16:9? uuuuuurgh on 16:9 with black borders? gaaaaack in 16:9 distorted?
that is the reason for me hating 16:9, tought i guess for film could be nice... but i prefer to watch normal tv and playing games to that....

i hope that games for the new consoles will keep the 4:3 option....

You can NEVER have too much resolution. Never ever ever ever.

As to 4:3 my tv supports it as an option. It seems 4:3 will be supported for quite some time.

I am still pissed about going from nice lds to artifact laden dvds..

It's probably why I own less than 20 dvds.

Dude, 720p is just a little more than XGA and that's the minimun in PC gaming.

We can't be stuck in 640x480 anymore, I don't know about 1080p, but 720p should be the standart

Thanks for saying the famous words from The Emperors New Cloths by the famous Danish Writer H.C. Andersen who many believes was gay. But anyway I don´t care about HD or Blue Ray and so on, heck as long I can see at least 32 bits colour through the television, I am happy.

    I'm not bothered yet.

I want things to look as great as possible, despite the Revolutions claims, which I DO believe in, also the next generation should look as great as humans can make it.

I'm not willing to pay the premium tho, I can wait until its full mainstream.

*Hits TV Mode, Hits 1* Now its on 4:3 mode. My TV cost less then 500 anyway, and it was well worth it, considering my parents just bought a normal 26 inch SDTV for 250-300 less.
