Ya, 480P is at best 'Enhanced Definition' e.g. standard NTSC resolution, but progressive, and apparently the Sega Saturn can do that. Bring on the PS3 and 1080P :)

Sega Saturn can do progressive scan? News to me. Whats needed to make it output that?Originally Posted by Phinn
Also, 480p is not considered high definition.
well, then the good old "the screen savers" were wrong, they even said anything above 10mbps is considered high def by the government.Originally Posted by Fabrizo

A lot of people group EDTV with HDTV, but it technically is not.
hehe damn everybody else got to it already.
Also doesn't less then 1/3 of gamecube software actualy suport progressive scan?
It's funny that microsofts xbox, which is mocked for being buit from pc parts, has almost all it's games running in progressive scan.

The Saturn had the best resolution of any system before the Dreamcast and PS2 came along. It could doOriginally Posted by Fabrizo

704 x 480 which looks very sexy !! Mostly only Sega's own games ran in this resolution but there are quite a few 3rd party titles that use 640 x 224 and a hand full in 704 x 480. You need a good TV with RGB though to get the goodies from 704 x 480 otherwise it will flicker.

I'm pretty sure the number of games that support progressive scan is pretty big. I haven't seen a title recently that didn't support it, they just don't all have the symbol on the back of the case.Originally Posted by subbie
Here's a list, though I don't know how accurate or complete it is:

60 frames per second still looks pretty good .

its however rarely used.
whats especially cool about this is that the snes can switch resolutions per scanline.
some of the later games (seiken densetsu 3, rudras treasure, marvelous) use that feature to display high-res textboxes, while the rest of the screen remains low-res.

Nice, do you've a list of those?Originally Posted by Yakumo
This might not be anything near complete, but here's most of the games that ran in the Saturn's high resolution 704x480 display mode from what I can remember:
Anarchy In The Nippon
Athlete Kings
Battle Arena Toshinden Ultimate Revenge Attack
Dead Or Alive
Die Hard Arcade
Digital Dance Mix Vol. 1: Namie Amuro
D-Xhird
International Victory Goal
Last Bronx
Radiant Silvergun
Saturn Bomberman
Savaki
Scorcher
Swagman
Virtua Fighter 2
Virtua Fighter Kids
Winter Heat
Some of those might not be correct, and I'm sure a pinball title is missing as well. A definitive list still doesn't exist, so anybody care to help out in making one?
Virtua Fighter 2? how you do it?
Too bad virtualOn doesnt...

I've changed the list that Anthaemia made.
Anarchy In The Nippon - OK
Athlete Kings - OK
Battle Arena Toshinden Ultimate Revenge Attack - OK
Dead Or Alive - OK
Die Hard Arcade - NOPE
Digital Dance Mix Vol. 1: Namie Amuro - OK
D-Xhird - OK
International Victory Goal - NOPE
Last Bronx - OK
Radiant Silvergun - NOPE
Saturn Bomberman - Only in ten player mode
Savaki - OK
Scorcher - NOPE
Swagman - No idea but probably not
Virtua Fighter 2 - OK
Virtua Fighter Kids - OK
Winter Heat - OK
Added the following
Valtva
Stellar Assault (Also has an interlaced mode)
Internet browser disc
Virtua Fighter GC discs
Zero Divide the Final Conflict
there are others too. Plus there are many games that use the high resolution mode for art work or title screen.

I think Cotton Boomerang runs all of its menues in high resolution (they've always looked increadably good to me). Panzer Dragoon Sagas title screen at the very least I think runs in that res as well.
