    Titanium N64 Controller

I seem to remember there being a titanium N64 controller that came out at the system launch. And when i say titanium, i mean it was actually made out of the metal, not just painted. I remember the price being something like $125. No one else on the planet seems to remember these things, and google has nothing. Am i making this up?

i remember a controller of this sort, but cant remember how it was obtained. I actually think you had to win in a contest i belive, and it was shown i think months or a year or so later. But i know what your talking about, looked quite nice.

i remember a solid gold one for the winner of some mario kart 64 race. but i never read about anyone getting it or ever really seeing it.

    I can't believe they'd give out a SOLID gold N64 controller.....

Firstly, it would weigh a ton, and it would be worth a simply preposterous amount of money. A 24K plated controller would make a lot more sense, and IMO would actually be a pretty cool collectible.

It'd be pretty simple (and cheap) to coat your own controller. Just open the shell, take out the innards, coat the shell, put everything back and yer done.

probably not full scale.. full scale and it'd be about $15,000 in gold.

there was never a solid gold controller.
there was a gold painted controller only in the UK as far as i remember.

I bought my N64 in late 97' at a Toys'r'us, and it came with "Toys'r'us exclusive" gold controller, which I still have to this day. The deal didn't last long, and i'm not sure if it was offered in other Toys'r'us stores, or only in the U.S.

Plus, gold-painted N64s & controllers are rather easy to come by in Japan, I bought a N64 + pad for 2000 yen and another pad for 999. Not that I can do anything with it, but it certainly looks nice next to the Panasonic Q :033:

There was a Limited Goldeneye pack in the UK with gold controller:

Then there was the Japanese pad, I think released with OOT:

(Thanks to Barry Ling for that pic! www.sdk-team.com)

Apparently there was a very limited edition of 100 gold controllers made by Nintendo Power, but eventually released a second batch.

Lastly, there was the Limited edition Toys 'R' Us Gold N64 in the US:

Oh, I found a Japanese console, not sure of its history, though:

The system I got (in the US) only had one gold controller and the standard system. I remember the offer with the gold system and two gold controllers being offered sometime later on, possibly in the same year (97) or later.

That's the same one I had. I believe it may have been a Toys 'R Us exclusive as well.

Yep, sure was. I remember buying it with the way too expensive ($70!) Shadows Of The Empire...because at the time I was completely obsessed with Star Wars, and had already played the living crap out of Mario 64 at a friends place the year before.

Anyway, sorry, didn't mean to give you guys my life story.

There were three Toys R Us exclusive N64's in the US. The first was packaged with a single gold controller:

There was also the edition with two gold controllers and the Pikachu Nintendo 64 Set (called the Pokemon Pikachu N64 everywhere else).

Sayin999 mentioned a controller that was a prize in a contest. I think he's thinking of the silver Millennium 2000 controller, which was a prize in Ninetndo Power. I'm lucky enough to own one:

There were also gold N64 controllers given out at E3 one year. They had Starfox 64 on a gigantic projection screen and you waited in line to play against 3 other people. The winner got a gold controller.

This one was released in the UK, together with Diddy Kong Racing.

Yes, I did say it was released in the UK ;) It was with Goldeneye though, not DKR...

(special promotion... GOLDeneye with GOLD pad)

You can see clearly here Pierce Brosnan on the promotion at the side:

In fact, IIRC it should've had an outer card slip originally, on top of the box.
