360 wireless controller - shutdown question

Ok, I finally decided to use the Play and Charge kit that I bought a few days ago.
When you run the controller with standard alkaline batteries and shut the system off (either manually or through the Dashboard) the green circle of light around the Xbox Guide button on the controller shuts off completely.

However, when I shut down the system (or just the controller) with the plug and charge battery pack installed in my controller, the green circle of light on my controller remains lit! Only quadrants 2 and 3 though...it stayed on overnight too. This happens whether or not the controller has the charging cable inserted...

I don't understand if this is an intentional feature or what? I mean, I'd assume that since the light goes out completely when using alkaline batteries, the same should happen when using the nimh battery pack, no?

Does it not have something to do with the fact that it 'thinks' that you want to charge up a battery pack, i.e act as a reminder that you have a NiMh pack installed?

I don't know. The battery pack is fully charged (the light on the charging cable went from red to green and the Dashboard guage indicates this too).
The instruction sheet that comes with the charging kit is kind of vague as well. When I shut the system down, the light on the controller does go out completely for a few seconds only to relight in that weird pattern.

I did notice that if you press the "Start" button on the controller when its in this phase, the ring of light fills up completely and blinks for a second, only to return to 2 and 3 quadrant stand by mode. I

If you have the charge kit plugged in when you turn the console off, it will continue to trickle charge the battery. If you plug in the charger after you turn the console off, it will not charge the battery until you turn the console back on.

Yeah, that I noticed.
The problem I'm having is that once I remove the controller from the charger AND power down the system, the green ring of light still stays lit for whatever reason.

I checked Microsoft's Xbox360 site and only found instructions on how to power down the system (and/or the controller) but this I already knew. I guess the only way to stop this from happending is simply to pop out the nimh battery pack after use...

Well, I tried the controller again yesterday and despite the light being "on" for most of the night, the battery guage on the Dashboard indicated a full charge, so I'm guessing this is normal.

Does anyone else own the play and charge kit? Can someone confirm if they're getting the same kind of symptoms with their controllers?
