It turned in to a play ground for stupid kids who think war games kick arse and anything else is gay. How wrong they are. I know a few teenagers like that.

Sorry to be so frank, but how can you MISS them? If I'm not mistaken, you were like 8 when Call of Duty first came out in 2003, one entire decade after Doom/Wolfenstein 3D. :-P

Besides, the picture is right. I am not too much into old shooters except for some things I caught up on (the common stuff). I think FPS pretty much went to shit after Medal of Honor came out - the WW2/Vietnam/Pacific War boom broke out. With CODMW in 2007 we got a new trend, realistic war scenarios. It was nice when stuff like Serious Sam and Giants: Citizen Kabuto was released, I played those when they came out and I still like them. Great playability, funny and violent.

You seem to be implying I didn't play the old Dos games when I was a kid!

No, he seems to be implying that you still are a kid and that you weren't even born when most of those games were released.

Maybe I am an ageist, I'm just a bit sensitive towards this know-it-all behavior that you see sometimes on the net. Being honest about your age without pretending to be more knowledgable/experienced as you are is what I like best, regardless if someone is 45 or 15.

I did this for some time when I started browsing on forums to talk about games (aged 13+) and I realized a couple of years later how pointless it is... I like Famicom games although that machine was released 6 years before I was born and I my first consoles were an N64 and an Xbox. Personal thing, then... I feel like something's wrong when someone aged 16 tells us he MISSES the good old DOS times. I was like 3 when DOS was up-to-date and I'm 6 years older man. It doesn't make sense Lol

    Sorry for the rant.

We were relatively poor growing up. Alot of the games I played were old mega drive games we picked up cheap second hand and old PC/Dos games. We didn't get a playstation until they we're much cheap and a Auntie gave us one for Christmas towards the end of its life.

To be honest, I would've never played many awesome PC games (definitely not One Must Fall 2097, for example) as a kid if it wasn't for my dad :-)

I played loads of the old (and awesome) dos games in the mid 90´s, so the shooters that has been mentioned are games, I played there. Cause that is where my mother got her 4/86 25 MHz (Olllivetti) 4 megs of ram with 240 megs of harddisk and Windows 3.11, and I played the old dos games later on on other machines. And I am born in 1982. So people can be lucky playing the old timers, without turning to Abandonware and DOSbox.
