Ok - I have instructions for my TEST PS2 and the instruction manual covers BOTH the DTL-H50001 and DTL-H50001S models.

There is no mention of the 'S' model doing anything different than the non 'S' model. Also, both consoles do the exact same thing.

In short - I have no idea what the S is for and why. Maybe Sony did it on purpose just to confuse people like us.......

Yeah, all the chinese workers get to run around for a day, it helps break the tedium of slave labor factories.

Do i get in trouble for bumping a sticky? Anyway...

Hey Assembler, I was thinking about this again. What kind of disks does your DTL-H30000 play? I would assume all region retail disks, as the 30001 and the 30002.

what's the average price of a TOOL (the T10000) floating around the black market?

if you look at ebay, there's a TOOL going for $2,200 with 5 days left. I've seen "new in box" TOOLs go for around $3,000. I've seen loose TOOLs go for around $1,000.

Then there was a guy here last month who wanted to sell one for $15,000...

then I reckon it was a very bad move from my part not wanting a TOOL found for 600 dollars last year. The downsides of being a student..

I have never come in contact with one however. Is it as "stand-alone" and autonomus as the DDH of the GameCube's development hardware? or even more? Does it have it's own visual OS in a Linux flavour or is a host computer needed to coordinate and control the TOOL (as in GDEV and most devkits)?

It's basicly a linux pc on one side, and a ps2 on the other. Flip a perverbial switch and you go straight from coding the game to testing it.

Impressive little feat of engineering, if you ask me. Interesting that no one has ever tried to duplicate it...

Amen to that. the GDEV is already giving me a hard time, since I cant send code to it thru the ODEM, and it always goes into "I need NPDP cart" mode. Would you happen to know what the issue could be?

Not a clue. Nintendo hates me, so i don't get to play with their toys much. The person you want to talk to is oldengineer, but he's been gone a few days. He'll see your thread when he gets back i'm sure.

I have received a slimline debug station:

    DLT-H70002S

I only tested pal games which work. I would like to test it with masters but I have no idea how to make a master dvd

I don't think there are any non s models.

I believe that they were only created for demonstrations like E3, where sony doesn't like to show off the debugging equipment.

What? My word wasn't good enough? ;)

These things have been around for more than a year. That said, I've only seen the retail clones. I've never seen a DTL-H7000X model with the TEST branding.

If any of you have been to any events where Sony (or thrid parties) has been demoing PS2 games on the PStwo units, chances are you've seen these models as well and just didn't realize it. There is one big giveaway that you're looking at a debug rather than a retail unit though, even if you can't see the back.

ALL retails have the DVD Video logo on them. NO debug or test units have the DVD Video logo. If it's missing the logo, it's a debug. :)

As for getting one, these are still in demand by companies. Not so much as dev units, but as demo units. Can't have a fatty PS2 on display where consumers will see it when slim is in. As a result, those that are owned don't get released into the wild nearly as often.

To make a master you need the Master Disc Patcher, you may find it somewhere on the forums.
There is no DVD Video player like the others TEST models i guess?
Could you post a screenshot from the info screen, to see what version of the browser and PS1 driver it uses?
I'd like to ask for a bios dump, but i think it's against the rules...

I'm not so sure about the whole DVD logo thing...

I have two of these slimline debuggers and they both have the dvd logo on them. If you look at the one in the pictures above, it has the logo too. However, neither of mine play dvds (actually, one of them won't turn on). And no, they're not for sale.

Now that someone else has posted pictures of one, i can take pics of mine (ahh... the restrictions of NDA's). I'll take them as soon as i buy a new usb cable for my camera.

Take another look at the photo, and take another look at your debuggers. There will be a DVD ROM logo but there will not be a DVD Video logo. I can guarantee you that your debuggers do not have a DVD Video logo if they are as shipped from the factory. The only way a debug unit could end up with a DVD Video logo is if someone did a case swap with a retail unit and that would have to be done by a thrid party. If Sony were to produce a debugger with the DVD Video logo on it, it would be in violation of a licensing agreement.

    ;)

Here are a couple of model numbers from US slimline debuggers:
    DTL-H75000AS
    DTL-H70011S
