Thread: 09/14/05 The official sanctioned Sonic Extreme AFTER AUCTION thread.

  1. #21
Don't start preordering copies or anything yet, because the supposed "winner" has completely disappeared, and has been using false information in his profile and just smells kind of fishy to me. I'm pretty sure the bid is reverting to the $2,500 guy.
HA ! It figures. We got ourselves a comedian.

Despite being known as something of a hardcore fanatic when it comes to unreleased Saturn games, I wasn't informed of this particular auction until after it had already ended. However, now that I am aware of its existence I can't bring myself to be genuinely excited (like if the complete second revision of Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 or the work-in-progress title that later became Shenmue was leaked), because from what I can gather there was never enough actually made of Sonic X-Treme using any of the many engines utilised during its ill-fated production to make something worthwhile. I'll probably still end up getting a copy when it leaks, but the fact is that Sonic X-Treme: The Myth is always going to be superior to Sonic X-Treme: The Game in my opinion...

I have to agree with you there Anthaemia. The Sonic Xtreme that was sold is nothing more than a run & jump demo on a Nights style background. Now, if it was a build that showed all the levels that featured in the Magazines all those years ago then it would have been in my hand as long as it didn't go over 4000 dollars.

Maybe the CD has something else to be discovered, hidden away on the disk? :)

If the supposed winner doesn't reply, I'd suggest there should be another auction for this item. If I understood well, there was somebody willing to offer $5000 before this guy showed up and promised to share it, and more people would have added their cash to the group fund, etc etc.

And I wouldn't like to think the ratman deal was just made up by somebody else who wanted the Sonic fans to stop bidding for it. If he's not real, this would harm both those who wanted it released and the seller, since he's going to make less money from it. =\

I doubt he will. I don't think he wants Sega finding out he has that CD...

I don't know where you got this $5,000 figure from, but it's the first I've heard of it. Highest bid I had was from ratman at $3,000, second highest was from the anonymous collector at $2,500.

well it is one of the rarest things in the world. The guy who created most of this game almost died making it so i think it is worth it.

    comment from Ratman, quoted verbatim:

"You all have been fucked by The Great Red Rat! I was hired by the "Anonymous Collector" to make sure his bid was uncontested and outdone, and TheRedEye knew this. Have an unpleasant day shitheads!! HAHAHAHA! smile.gif"

Of course, that means that the seller potentially got screwed out of $2500 more.

Here, last page of the thread.

    Also, another quote, same thread:

"The whole bidding was internal and never ment for anyone else to bid on/own. TheRedEye and the "Collector" only publically gave this information out only to make you wet your fucking pants.

Either way you would never of seen X-Treme in the light of day. You may blame TheRedEye (The middleman) and hl7_18 (The Collector).

Furthermore the two AIM names I provided were not so fake.

Mad Moxxy = The Ex-Sega Employee (Seller)
    MetaPhysicalMind = The "Anonymous Collector"

    Yet another quote, same thread:

"The item was never ment for the Sonic Community to have. ONLY THE COLLECTOR."

I do find it hard to believe that people here were also intended to be fucked over. And that the seller would give up a potential $2500 extra just to fuck people over.
