I recently took my Dreamcast out of my closet, and realized that I only bought 3 games for the system (Sonic Adventure, Jet Grind Radio, and Evolution.) What are some of the best games for Dreamcast that aren't incredibly expensive/hard to find?

Well you already have Evolution, I thought that was an awesome game even though it had a lot of problems and was repetitive, I'd say some other goodies are Phantasy Star Online if you can go online with the Dreamcast, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure 2, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, King of Fighters '99, and ummmm well there's a bunch others I can't think of, so I bet other's will fill in the blanks.
The only games I occasionally still play are Soul Calibur and MvC2. Boy thats a sad system.

And yeah, the homebrew stuff is great. I highly recommend dRxLax, dcSquares, Alice Dreams, Feet Of Fury, Cool Herders and Amanda the Witch's Apprentice. As well as these games which have been ported to the Dreamcast: Beats Of Rage, Giana Returns, Super Mario War and Noiz2sa Over Dreamcast. Feet of Fury has a commercial release form a company called GOAT Games, Cool Herders and Alice Dreams will also be released by them sometime in the coming year (well, Cool Herders should released within this year, while Alice may be longer because it's not done yet and is obviously a labor of love moving slowly) as well as some other games like DCastle and a compilation of classic arcade remakes.

Sweater Fish has already said many, but I will seriously recommend Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Soul Calibur, Bangai-O, Giga Wing 2, Ikaruga, Gunbird 2, Guilty Gear X, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Rez, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (the first one isn't bad either), Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, and Sonic Adventure 2.
There's a mighty fuckload of great dreamcast games. It's one of the best systems ever.
Oops, yeah, sorry. I didn't mean run all over this thread by posting such an extensive list. Nobody reads big long lists like that anyway, so other people should still make their recommendations as if I'd never posted that.Originally Posted by XerdoPwerko
I really gotta get Giga Wing 2 someday. I have a list (which I won't post) of about 20 games that I'm still looking for, then I'll have the most perfect collection for the most perfect system ever and I'll be able to die happy with a contoller in my hand.

I think DC homebrew/emulator scene is cack. I guess only because I'm used to looking at PC emu/demoscene ;)
Well, you have to keep in mind that the PC homebrew world is much huger than the Dreamcast one. You also have to remember that on the Dreamcast, coders are working on a totally undocumented system with a fully homebrew SDK. That would explain any technological deficiencies in the games they make. As for the gameplay innovation deficiency which certainly bothers me much more than the technological side, I think that'd be down to the size of the scenes. If you took a ratio of all the really good Dreamcast homebrews (even if you just limited it to the ones I mentioned, though some people would add others) to the total number of Dreamcast homebrews and compared that to the same ratio for PC homebrew, I guarantee the Dreamcast would thoroughly trounce PC. There's a total of about 60 or so homebrew games on the Dreamcast (plus maybe twice that number of demos) compared to who knows how many thousands on PC.Originally Posted by Kyuusaku

Just about any homebrew game like Beats of Rage doesn't interest me in the least, on any platform. Just the classic cracktroish demos. Dreamcast scene is like no other scene, due to it being compilation BS galore of endless halfassed emulator ports. I'm not even so impressed with the tech effects either, I don't really expect them but I don't think of the system as an enigma, they could impress me with original music and artwork, at least that'd be more classy. BTW, I don't think DC is any less documented than PS2, PS2 has plenty of nice techdemos. Don't hate me but I think the DC scene comes with the territory, soulless system, soulless demos.
headhunter is an okay game if before you play it, you use a mental delorean to get the mindset of back in the past when graphics and character animation like that were probably only average. It has some fun stuff in it though...

Duke Nukem?!? o_0. Arrggghh, it's a must have game!!!Originally Posted by PhreQuencYViii
Is this playable by someone who knows nothing about Japanese? I have the old PC game, and I wanted to give the DC remake a try.Originally Posted by Kyuusaku
Seaman is a good title, if you want to be wierded out :). Shenmue is also good, as others have said, but if you want to appreciate the story then you'll turn off the voices. The English voiceovers are horrible.
