Drinking Age?

Just curious as to what the drinking age is in Japan :P Had to ask lol

You must be over 20 to drink, over 18 or is that 20 too, to smoke and any age to have sex :D I'm pretty sure there's no set age limit in Japan for sex but of course lolita shit is out of the question.

I thought the age of "consent" was 13 in Japan... still you don't see huge influxes of loli-porn coming out of Japan, so it can't be taken that literally I guess.

I believe both smoking and drinking are set at 20. However most people of course drink or smoke earlier than that as it's pretty easy to just buy a cig out of vending machine and people really don't check ids when ya drink.

I also heard that the age of consent was 14 nationally. However other laws are in place that bump that up to 18 it seems. Then again joshikousei type prostitution is around. At least from what I've seen in downtown Sapporo -P

It's ridiculously easy to buy smokes/booze once you get out of high school. Nobody cards anyone in Japan.
