New PS2 US Greatest Hits Coming

Heads up! The following become greatest hits on August 23rd:

    ATV Offroad Fury 3
    Hot Shots Golf Fore!
    Jak 3
    Killzone
Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal
    Sly 2
    Syphon Filter: Omega Strain

It's great to pick up the titles once they've dropped in price but don't have the nasty red label on them. :D

None of these really interest me. Well, i'm gonna try Killzone, but i heard alot of bad thing about it. It would mostly be for it's online matches though, so i don't really care about the IA.
Need to be quick, the best time is when they're at the price of a greatest hit, but they don't have their ugly red, yellow or silver label yet, like you said. :D

Already Own Jak 3. Its very good, but you need to have played the 2nd seeing as its a direct continuation). I have Ratchet 2, but I didn't care for what I played of it. I havn't played any of the Sly games, but they look like they might be worth checking out at $20.

Call me a snob but I won't buy greatest hits games. The red labels clash with the Feng Shui of the rest of my collection. I've no clue why they do that. It would be cheaper to just slap a sticker on the cellophane.

yeah, i hate Greatest hits, Player choice and platinium anoying labels that destroy the look of your collection. I need to buy twin snakes soon before it gets labeled players choice, i already missed tales of phantasia, mario sunshine and metroid prime, :smt022 but there's that metroid prime + echoes demo that intersts me alot, so i guess i'm gonna pick it already played.

btw, is there a trick to know when you buyed your game in general? 'cause wind waker is at PsC price everywhere, but at some place i can still find it without that damn yellow thing. if there's no trick, i might pick one or two copy of it, sell one on ebay years later and keep the other for my collection.

i'm looking at final fantasy x-2 for the same plan.

Too late, Twin Snakes is already a players choice. Try going to a EB, Gemestop, ect and ask if they have one without the label. It still goes for the players choice price and I've had good luck that way. If push comes to shove and you don't care if it's opened but still new you can ask for the display box game if it's not a players choice. They'll usually give a extra discount on the game too since they had to open it.

You just have to look. Pick a day, make a list of games and stores, and go look. There's always ebay too.

twin snakes is still not affected by the low price syndrome, affecting the boxart beauty, over here. :P

Hey, at least it's not the ugly PSX green "greatest hits" label. I have Ace Combat 4 in GH version and the box actually looks very good. So does FFX, though I have the non-GH one.

I have the GH version of Symphony of the Night, an already ugly cover to begin with... and FF7, does look ugly as well with the green bar. I think nothing can look good with that. With the red, there's not much trouble.

What's the big deal? It's a game. Play it. The red bar is ugly, true, but that's the game is the same.

    You said it, dude.
Still, though, these designers could use some classes. The switch from red to green was quite positive, though.

And I kind of like the white Xbox Greatest Hits games.

Star Ocean Till the end of time is already GH material. Did that game not sell well or something?

You have to sell well to become a Greatest Hits.

Well the Greatest Hits game's manuals and discs are in black and white, or at least they were for PS1. They change stuff too, like in REmake on GC, in the player's choice version the infinite grenade launcher ammo glitch doesn't work.

Funny, since Star Ocean had trouble selling and went down in price after 3 months. Killzone on the other hand, is taking FOREVER to even go down $10. MGS3 is $20 now, and it came out at the same time, too!

To be a greatest hits game, it has to have sold at least 400,000 copies and has to have been out for at least 9 months. Sometimes they aren't immediatly put on GH though, like FFX. The PS2 greatest hits aren't as awful as the PS1's, they don't remove any color or anything. I think the manual stays the same too, but I dunno. The two GH games I had I gave away, mostly because they clashed haha. Plus they were FFX, which IMO sucks, plus I beat it, and MGS2, which I'm gunna get for Xbox. Man the PS1 GH was awful though.....I remember seeing a friends FF8 disc and thinking it was pirated or something wierd.

man, megaman anniversary isnt a greatest hit yet?

damn sony, the one MM game that actually sells great, and it doesnt receive the honor. Bastards...

One thing about the Gamecube Player's choice titles is that aside from any tweaks to the actual game istelf, ONLY the outside cover art has any indication that it's a player's choice title. Just go buy a used non-violated copy of the game, switch the covers, and return the used one with the player's choice cover. Alot of work I know but it's worth it so you don't have those bright yellow bands in your sea of black Gamecubeness.

    *Shudders*

I think the Xbox "Platinum Hits" look worst of all. PS2 titles don't look that bad, and Nintendo is probably the best when it comes to re-releases. I don't mind a small yellow band at the top of the box, and the red color at the top of PS2 titles doesn't bother me much (although I don't own any Greatest Hits). Changing the entire color of the box is just wrong to me...
