Mythbuster: Grey Vs Blue Vs Green PlayStations

I have heard a lot of myths about the Green and Blue debugging playstations on different forums that my head is about to explode. I need these myths busted.

Someone who 100% knows the answer to any of the following please reply:

1.) The Green, Blue, and Grey PlayStations all have the same amount of RAM, 2mb.

2.) The development kits (ISA or PCi boards) have 8 mb RAM.

3.) The Green PlayStation DOES NOT insert random errors in the CD or memory card.

4.) Some versions of the Blue and Green PlayStations came with AC adaptors (similar to the white psone). There is no significance to it.

If I am correct in all the statements please tell me. On a side note, I think I got screwed on a Blue Playstation. I got it and it's the DTL-H1001. However when I boot a game whether it's from Japan, Europe, or USA, I still get the words "SCEA" at the bottom of the screen upon initial boot. I was told that a real Blue or Green Playstation will not display that.

You are right on all accounts except that the green Playstation CAN insert errors. Regarding your blue PSX, yours could just be an anomaly. I don't believe anyone here can tell you for sure whether or not it's possible to have a SCEA displaying "debugging unit" but there was a thread about it a while back.

When you say it CAN, does that mean I need to do something special to it? How can I make it insert those errors and how can I make it stop?

And thank you very much for answering/confirming.

I'm really not sure, either via a dongle of some sort or through DTHL-2000/2500/2700 connectivity.

I decided to go through my tech reference cd. I did a search for blue and it popped up. SCEA did verify in some of the BBS messages that the blue station has 2mb RAM and that it can connect to the PC via the DTL-H3050. The DTL-H3050 is the same serial cable used for the Net Yaroze. I guess it allows you to get the "printf"s form the code. What is a printf?

(Btw, I forgot to mention that I heard only the green playstation connects to the PC. Now I learned that was only a myth.)

Well, the PSX bios has got quite a lot of functions that don't make sense to me. There might just be a BIOS call for this, maybe one of the bu_ ones.

Someone should go on ebay and buy this game. I would but I'm low on funds. There's one for sale in the UK.
