It is compatible. Also, if you mess with the dip settings and have enough RAM in it, you can play games that require the RAM cart :d

Hey, same here, I got my hands on a Psy-Q Saturn but all I ever succeeded in was changing the palette of the SEGA bootup logo :smt043
(still refusing to use SGL/SBL)
Did you actually have the Psy-Q cart? The saturn won't do much out of the ordinary without it... and software!

No, the Sophia really doesn't have any advantage over any of the other dev setups.
