you cant play retail games, only nr disc from the region where the nr reader is from.
eva it has a region switch on the side...
Yeah if it's a US/JPN unit, PAL units can only play PAL NR disks.

Surely if you have GCoS running from mem card/SD card and an ActionReplay, you should be able to boot any region original? But then you could do that with a normal Cube.
Of couse getting an Action Replay to boot in a NR reader would be a feat in and of itself! ;)

I meant the memory card version of AR, not the disc based version, which an NR obviously can't boot. I'm sure that should work.
Other than that, I suppose the only other way is ViperGC/RipperGC. But I'm sure you don't want to hard mod an NR?
could just hunt down a sonic team coder and try to get a NR version of PSO out of him. :P
That or befriend a GCN developer to make you a multi purpose NR boot disk.
It's pretty, and if you're lucky enough to find a NR disc, it'll work.
It's a good thing to keep around as the fact that NR discs won't work on a normal gamecube
When gamecube is all and done, the protos and unreleased that surface will require the hard to get reader.
I do believe I've got one of those in my collection somewhere. ;)
NR discs can be such a pain to catalogue due to their tiny size.

Speaking of proto GCN Games. Any proto rare games surface? Someone somewhere has to have an old build of kameo floating somewhere (I WANT IT IF YOU DO!!).
Getting ANYTHING proto-like out of Rare proper is a royal pain in the ass. Doubly so when it was owned by Nintendo as the big N is notoriously tight with its code. I'm also not sure that Kameo was ever shown running on disc. IIRC, it was always running off a Dolphin box. That said, if a NR version of Kameo does surface somewhere I'd be interested in hearing about it. Would love to do a side by side with the Xbox build. :)
Course I'd be doubly interested in a Dinosaur Planet original.

I was lucky enough to get a NR reader last night :D (well this morning for me - i had to stay up till 6:30am watching ebay like a hawk). I'm on my mission to collect every Gamecube varient there is... I however have no idea as to why I am on this mission though, tis just one of those things .. haha :D
:) You get to join the club. I bough a NR from Assembler about a month ago (another acclaim QA unit).
The auction didn't mention anything about the club! Sweet, extra mystery prize :D.. haha. Need to get me a few NR disks to go in it now. :)

I need to get some as well but I am on the edge about jumping to more expensive gcn stuff (like GBOX).

I really need to get a list of EVERY gamecube varient, both commerical and dev so I can see what I need to complete the collection... To quote from the great Nintendo themselves
