    X-Arcade sitcik

    I've been thinking about buying one of these arcade sticks;

I just wanted to know if anyone has tried it? Also, I assume it's an 8 way stick rather then just a four way cross? Is there a better arcade stick out there?

    Thanks!

I personally think it's a pretty good stick, sturdy, comfortable for me. Others don't seem to agree, however.

Capcom released a nice stick for 69 bucks that is even better. but it is only one player.

I wasn't too happy with the X-Arcade I tried to be honest. The one I can recommend (I finally bought the PS2 version) is the Pelican Real Arcade, if it's available in your area:

The buttons and stick are all standard parts, so should you feel like putting in Cherry microswitches, swapping for a Happ stick, or going for the Japanese-style buttons it's as easy as opening the bottom and swapping the parts (although a little soldering is required as the wires are soldered to the current switches.) Plus, they come in PS2, Xbox, or multi-system (PS2, XBox, GC) varieties.
I got mine new for $30; they normally run $60 but if you live in a place where there's no fighting game craze your local stores might discount them to get them out the door.

I just think the X-Arcade stick is rather like Red Octane - you're paying a lot more for the brand name than for the actual stick, but that's just me.

They all look/sound pretty good to me - I'm no die hard arcade player. I really wanted a two player one so my Girlfriend and I could play together on it. But if the Pelican Real Arcade stick is only $60 then I could get two of those.

That does seem to be the case. I wish I could get one from the US - that'd workout cheaper for a new one than I can get one second hand here, but shipping would kill me.

It doesn't look like I can get a Pelican Real Arcade here, none on eBay and I've never seen one in the shops here.

A good stick for PS2 is a good stick for MAME, Evangelion-01 - $10 Playstation to USB adapters are plentiful and common (Radio Shack carries them).

I've had a similar problem when I looked for a stick in the past (although to be fair I didn't spend too long). Let me know if you find a UK retailer, online or shop, who sells high quality sticks for a decent price, eh...

Oh yes, the Sega Arcade sticks are a dream! Just like the real Astro City cabinets if you change the buttons for cherry switched ones.

    Indeed, sir.

I play with exactly that Radio Shack adaptor. Hell, my old Pentium 3 laptop has become my own Portable Personal Arcade (and it has AV out! Hell YES!). I love using the old PSX pad on most emulators - and with my PSX being almost dead, this helps a lot.

I also have a PS2 arcade stick (from the mexican brand "Acteck", which actually probably gets them made in China), and while I CAN use it with the adapter, it's a dual system (PS2 or PC-USB). It even has force feedback.

    I highly recommend either way.

Will do, friend. Sadly eBay is looking to only likely place right now. I'll keep looking.

Most people use X-Arcade sticks for Mame. Or they build their own stick.

I've used it, it's quality. It's got a small footprint so it tends to rock a bit when you use it with fighting games.
