That's it, M$ have confirmed the end of Xbox. Brings the question of Xbox 2 backwards compatability into question though. Can't see M$ clearing the shelves of Xbox software on X2 release day, but there will certainly be no new X1s for sale. So it's either buy an X2 to play X1 & 2 games, or M$ are truly gonna fuck everyone over and completely end x1.

Seems silly to me. The NES ran for a few years after the SNES was released (and Fmicom is still selling!), and Sony are still selling many, many PSones. But I suppose the Xbox is a different beast entirely, and continuing production or selling a smaller redesigned Xbox wouldn't be financially viable for M$.

while MS stopping production seems liek a stretch, it would be no suprise for them to pull back production because factories will be producing xbox 2 parts or whatever. It's kinda too early for them to speak about killing the xbox now, especially since that kinda keeps people from buying it. There is already a shortage of xboxes...maybe for the reason I mentioned or because of the psu issue...

However, Microsoft has indicated to key retailers that it plans to having around a million Xbox 360 hardware units available in time for Christmas of 2005, as reported by MCV last week and recently confirmed to SPOnG.

We dont even know if the next Xbox system will be called Xbox 360.

Yeah, I've heard other sources discuss how there appears to be a shortage of systems, but not going straight to the conclusion that they've stopped production and giving the impression that's a fact. Spong are douche bags.

It would be a bit stupid to announce the "death" of Xbox before you've even unveiled the new hardware. I haven't heard anything good about this "Spong" place, so I think I'll wait for an official announcement.
