    Beatle Adventure Racing (N64)
The whole Track and field series - Twas some great button bashing fun
Turok 2 - If it hadn't been for goldeneye/PD, this would have been by far the best N64 FPS
Sega Bass Fishing. My God that game kicks arse.
Burnout 3, while not underrated is often not bought due to the EA Connection, which is a shame as its a great fun game.

    Over:
Psyvariar 2 - Maybe i didn't get it, but i really did think it was shite.
    MGS 1-3
    Gran Turismo 1-4

Shenmue - I'll probably get bashed for this. I liked Shenmue (haven't beaten II yet), and I think it's a great game, but I don't understand why everyone loves it so much. Sorry guys :(.

.... I'll post again when I can think of some.

Overrated: Most games like GTA, MGS, DDR, modern Nintendo first party games like Zelda/Mario/Metroid, etc.

Underrated: Chalk up another vote for the Shenmue series, Thief III, most shareware games for Mac/PC, Super Hydlide, Tenchu series, Bionic Commando, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

If we're going into PC territory, I can give you a great number of underrated titles (most of which I own :D).

anyway, every mario sports or spin-offs are over rated, imo. they wouldn't sell that much if it wasn't of mario's face. (only mario kart and mario rpg should survive! )

errmm... let me think of other games.... Wait, i think i'm gonna put my blulletproof shirt on and say
Nights into Dreams...................................am i dead already? anyway, this game rocks, true. but it's way too short and there's just too much many intersting things that haven't been pushed to the maximum. (who the hell's really playing with the boy or the girl anyway, We want nights!) overall, it felt like a tech demo or something, a pretty good tech demo, but still a tech demo...and an over hyped one.

nay, ff8 was under-rated because ff7 was over-rated. They tried to do something new, something else, but it didn't worked... guess the un-fantasy-ist world didn't helped too, among other things (like squaresoft focus on graphics) but overall it wasn't that bad. in fact, i found the fights where more dynamic than any other ff titles, wich was a good point.

Thing was, FF7 was over-rated because it blew everybody away. It was revolutionary, though, in the core, it wasn't better than FF6. It just changed the cinematic approach.

FF8 was not as revolutionary compared to FF7, though it's the better one of the two. FF7 is a classic, though, over-rated and all.

    You know what's under-rated?
The Virtual Boy. Sure, It's logical it'd fail if it cost 180 dollars and with the crappy support it got, but really, it's a great little machine.

They don't, which is why I can't see why two people here have called it over-rated. To be over-rated something needs a rather large following. While the people that love Shenmue do in fact love it with all their heart, there isn't that many of them. Look at the sales figures... Sega lost money hand over fist on BOTH Shenmues.

Psyvariar 2 - Maybe i didn't get it, but i really did think it was shite.
Another one that doesn't belong. Psyvariar 2 is pretty much considerered not only the worst Psyvariar, but a pretty lack-luster shmup in general.

    Because of the dialog!
Ryo: Do you remember that day?
    Random Person: That day?

Ryo: On that day.... Did you see a black car?

Okay, you have to cut Sega some SERIOUS slack on that. Translating a game is pretty fucking hard. But look at the way Shenmue is programmed. Most conversatations (and as such, audio samples) are fragmented so you don't have to listen to the whole thing, and so they don't say the exact same thing over and over. Where in Japanese walking up and saying, "That day..." is very natural, it just sounds queer in English, and there's no way around it. It's not Segas fault... there is no way to translate Shenmue properly without a lot of reprogramming.

Overrated: Zeldas from the N64 on, 3D GTAs, Halo & Halo 2, serious sports games.

Underrated: Working Designs' US release of Silhouette Mirage, Fatal Frame, Skygunner, Beyond Good & Evil, Soul Reaver I & II, Mischief Makers.

Systems-wise, the NeoGeo Pocket Color was really amazing, but it was crushed beneath the unstoppable juggernaut of the GBA. You can't argue with a thumbstick with microswitches or a portable Samurai Showdown. :-D

the funny thing is that the Japanese version isn't like that. The Englisg Dialog in Shenmue is pathetic and so are the voices :-(
