TurboED issues on TurboDuoR JAP

I got my turbo ED and put all the roms from the goodset separated in PCE and TG16 (JAP vs USA).
I also put all the the system cards including CD Games Express.

I have a non modified/untouched JAP TurboDuoR.

The good:
Turbo ED works and the JAP games I tried work (only a few to be honest)

I can load any System card that is JAP and I get the correct behavior SYS 1.00 has debug feature and load CD-ROMROM only, SYS 2.00/2.10 have NO debug and load CD-ROMROM only, SYS 3.00 loads Super CD-ROMROM, CD games express loads the Games express games only. So with turbo ED inserterd you can play all CD-ROMROM and Super CD-ROMROM games (on a TruboDuo/DuoR/DuoRX). None of the US Sys cards booted for me.

The semi-bad:
Many US games do not work, the letter T from the good set is almnost embarassing, I'd say 8 out of 10 do not boot.
TV Sports football/TV sport basketball etc... just hang at a blank screen. The JAP version of the same games works just fine. There are quite some other games that do not work (Air Zonk/ Victory Race/ Pac Land/ and quite some other).
I started going thru all of them and I have to say that quite a few US work fine but quite some do not work. I suspect that the patching routine does not always work or some in game extra checks.
As my TurboDuoR has not been region modded can someone with the PIN lifted try those games while leaving the TurboED in PCE mode?
Basically I'd like to know if I were to lift the right PIN (http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/pce/region.htm) would TurboED magically work on those games or do I have also to swpa the traces and switch TurboED to Tg16, basically rendering useless the run time patching from JAP to US but maybe the other way works (as there's no region check on JAP games)?
If this is a firmware bug it kind of sucks as the TurboED is not really upgradable, I have the version without USB so it will be a bitch to fix, maybe sending it back to Krikkz would help once he diagnoses the problem.

TV Sports Football (U) and TV Sports Basketball (U) both work fine for me on my non-region modded DUO-R. I will try any other games you can't get to work if you want. I have yet to come across a game that does not work. I gave him the region patching information and if he implemented it as I told him then it should work for every US game. It is a very specific string. Again if you find a game that does not work I will test it.

There is no region protection on JP games. The only protection that exists is stopping US games from working on JP consoles, and the pinout difference. The Turbo ED software patches the region protection and has that switch to defeat the pinout difference.

The problems you are having may be due to bad ROM files or a problem with your SD card.

Update: I tested the other games you mentioned like Air Zonk, all of them worked fine for me.

No luck here.

I tried from the goodset 2.04 from 0-9 to H of JAP and they all work (awesome),
but many (but not all) of the US dont work for me (Double Dungeon/ Dungeon Explorer to add to the list), the J version works the U does not.
I used also a different SD with same results (J are OK, same U are KO), I doubt the SD would make a difference for some U only.

I tried the same ROMs from both SD within MagicEngine and there they work fine so it seems the ROMs are OK, unless MagicEngine interprets them slighlty different.
I'm trying to get my hands on the NoIntro set so I can try those and see what is different if anything.

Some of the U ROMs screw up the screen pretty badly (a dotted pattern sometimes kind of 1 dot every 8 pixels or so, sometimes just garbage on screen, something is fishy, I added tape on the back of the TurboED to avoid any sort of possible contact with the metal shield on the TurboDuoR huCard slot, but that wasn't the issue).

I will update once I get the NoIntro. Maybe my TurboED has a small issue. I want to finish the J set to see if anything fails there, so far not a single failure which is awesome.

Perhaps yours have a broken region patching component? My everdrive MD appears defective in that way.

Found the NoIntro and just tried Double Dungeon (U) and Dungeon Explorer (U) and they both work.
So I suspect the GoodSet 2.04 has them in a format TurboED cannot recognize well.

I will try the other ones that are giving me trouble and update.

Check spot a few from NoIntro (like around 10-15 like PacLland/Victory Run/R-Type/TV Sports ZZZ/ etc...) and they all work.
So there's something in the GoodSet format of some U ROMs that throws the TurboED off (but they work in emulators).
And it's going to be more than the header (the NoIntro seem to have no header at all, but I doubt that's the only difference obviously)

Anyway now I'm happy.

Also found out you could use the Super CDROM System Card 3.0 U in a TurboDuoJap R -> finally you can use the memory manager in English, but for some reason CDROM System Card 2.0 U hangs (the J works just fine of course, both 2.0 and 2.10).

Anyway the end result is -> use the NoIntro.

There are alot of weird things that can be going on with PCE roms. Emulators ofcourse know how to interpret the files and have no problem. But the flash cart makers don't necessarily have all that information. I guess my set just happened to be a set that it liked.

Many PCE roms have a header on the front. I don't know if the ED deals with the headers or not (haven't gotten mine yet, it's still coming in the mail). I know the NeoFlash PCE card DOESN'T deal with headers, so I wrote a little utility to strip all the files in a directory if they had a header, and also mirrored 3Mbit games properly since the NeoFlash card also doesn't mirror 3Mbit games properly on its own. Perhaps the TED needs a similar utility... I'll check when I get mine as I have directories with and without headers.

the only recommendations:
1)do not use small cluster size, less than 8Kbyte, 32Kbyte is optimal size,
2)turbo-ed fat engine does not supports files fragmentation, not a problem if you will copy whole romset on clean sd card, but problems may appear if you will delete and copy something. Looks like native windows browser almost always write files without fragmentation, in case if card have enough of free space, but some file managers, like total comander, love to make fragmented files. But anyway, in worst case defrag operation will help

I downloaded the full romset from _=Demonoid.me=_-PC_Engine_Turbo_Grafx_Emulator_w_full_ROM_set_Good _PCE_1_09.torrent and all of the TV sports games work, so far everything works with the Everdrive set to PCE on my DUO/R which is also set to Jpn.

So far I can't boot Cyber Dodgeball (black screen).

While I'm testing I have some problems but I post that later when I will find solution/cause.

All games work (I didn't tested supergraphx) but some roms in GoodPCE are bad: Cyber Dodgeball, Populous, Ghost Manor. No intro versions works. Tested both USA and JAP roms.
