I've bought it in Japan with old junk. What's this? A pre-production unit or something else?
It has "SONY - NOT FOR SALE" sticker at the bottom.

I would assume a pre-production unit would either have a very low or no serial number at all (like most prototypes?)... but I could very well be wrong.
Though I must admit I never saw that NFS label before in all the pictures I've seen of debugging stations.

Normal label.

I've seen the same NFS unit years ago.
Must be an early make of the system, or it was only intended to Sony staff. I say that, because the serial number is very low.
Didn't another member have a grey model with the same sticker also? IIRC his (or hers) also had no other labels or stickers.

Is the wattage of the early units even that high? Usually, the earlier units have a higher power consumption as their hardware is usually less efficient.
E.g. The SCPH-10000 has the highest wattage of all PS2 consoles, and it heats up the most as well.
The factory name is missing as well. I don't think that even the early Playstation development units lack the factory name, do they? I know that the newer consoles lose the factory name stamps once they get manufactured overseas.
