Can anyone in japan help with a few car parts?

If anyone is interested, it could be an easy way to make some extra $$$.

This is the Mazda MX5, right? How much do these manifolds cost in the US? Also, shipping would be a real bitch I would imagine.

Do you have any idea on the model number. I'm having a look now for you but I really need the model number.

They are $480 for a new one. When a used one pops up they are usually $300sih.

I think you're seriously underestimating how much this is going to cost you. A manifold is HEAVY. Shipping is going to be ridiculous from Japan - even the cheapest, which will take months.

Incidentally, here in the UK a manifold for an MX5 is £100-150. I see one on eBay that's actually in the US and less than that (although it's a specific model). We'd also have heavy customs duty slapped on car parts.

Also, isn't the emission law in Japan so strict that cars get scrapped or exported after something like 8 years? That will either mean that you'll find loads of scrapped manifolds, or that nobody will bother stocking parts for a car that isn't on the road any more.

15lbs is about 7kg. I was expecting a bit heavier, TBH. Still, you won't get 7kg shipped for under $120, let alone $100... unless you're prepared to wait a couple of months. And that'll still be $65.

Incidentally, I found the part listed at 25,935 Yen - that's $330. They don't ship, so there's got to be a way to get it from wherever it is in Japan, plus shipping to you, plus your middle man's commission. Is it really worth it?

Sheesh, how many manifolds are there for the years you specified? There are like 5 on eBay and they all look different! This looks closest to what you posted:

There are 2 diffrent ones, the EU/JP and the USA one.
The EU/JP one has no internal butterfly valves and 'flows' much better than the USA one. It's good for 10hp(ish) on a stock engine, more if it's modified.


The one you listed is a USA one, you can tell by the top part(bottom in that pic) the USA one has 'humps' on both top and bottom parts. The EU/JP one doesn't.

In the 2nd pic you can see the 2nd set of butterfly valves.

Shipping to the US from elseware must be more expensive that shipping from the US, I shipped more than a few 17in(big box 15lbs) laptos worldwide(7-10day) fully insured for <$100.

If the European one is better, why don't you go back to what I said before and look on eBay UK? ;) There are tons of bog standard MX5 ones and they're dirt cheap.

I believe the US has stricter emissions laws. You see cars imported here regularly, but never exported to Japan. The reason cars over 8 years old are so often trashed is b/c of Japanese people can't stand to have anything "old". They're remodellling my gym that is 21 years old. No shit. It's shut down for 9 fucking months. [facepalm].

There are still a lot of older cars in Japan, I believe the registration costs go up as they get older? The older stuff is popular with Drifters. I myself drive what we, in Australia, call an "low volume import". It is a '03 V35 Skyline, 6MT, black/black sedan, which is supposed to be fairly rare. We got it mostly because even though it is a few years older the build quality etc would beat any POS Australian built Holden/Ford. And it's kinda different.

For parts for your car, do you not have local wreckers that specialize in imports? In Australia there are quite a few, such as All-jap, JAPparts etc etc (there are shit loads).

Could you remove the butterfly's? I remember when I had my CA18DET 180sx that was a popular trick was to remove the butterfly's, similar to what you mentioned.
