XBOX (original) laser replacement issue?

Hey guys I have a repair XBOX here, it appeared it only needed a new laser fitted. It has the Samsung SDG-605 ver.A drive, so requires the SOH-DX1 laser. I ordered 2 new ones and they arrived. I de-soldered the solder blob (for anti-static shipping purposes) and neither laser works. I had the top off the drive as it spun up and the laser shines through the disc (not that that means anything, well maybe something).

Could it be something else wrong with the drive other than laser if anyone has encountered this?

There's two plastic screws on the outer edge of the metallic rails which are used for parallax adjust.

Test to see if CDs play before tinker with that. (CDs will read even if the parallax adjust is wrong)

Sorry should have mentioned tried cd, hmmm now that I think about it, I only tried the cd with one laser..
