    Hey,

Guys if you get inappropriate spam in your PM box, click the report button and we will deal with the user(s) in question.

I know the guy who made this image... He plays on my server in FFXI (the image is made out of assets of the said game, FYI). Very appropriated.

Spam-O-Matic works really well on a vBulletin 4 forum i own.

You can block by keyword too, so if a bot is constantly spamming your forum with "hotfile.com" in the message for example, you can simply blacklist that and he will always be denied posting. After a person has mad a set amount of posts (e.g. 5) you can disable it checking any posts made by that user.

I won't point fingers, and you can call me paranoid... but I seem to be seeing more and more new users posting everywhere just to get to 50 posts and be able to sell in the marketplace...

AND at least a three months old account on the forums. That will stop people from posting (flooding) like crazy.
    Insert stupid poem here.

Same thing I use on a board about twice the size of assembler, works well, highly suggested.

I've seen a lot, they mainly hang around the "member collections" section and just say "Nice collection" on every single one.

As well as in the Member introduction...
They also bring up some old threads with small and non-relevant comments.

Seems a round of nazi pedo bear PM are going out. If you get one just report it and we will ban the user.

If you see it. Please report it. I already zero out an account and gave a week ban for it. Another user was flagged but he had been here for a few weeks.

That wouldn't be fair, a lot of great users didn't knew anyone from assembler prior to joining us. And ASSEMbler is the definitive knowledge database for a lot of gaming related stuff, we would basically lock people out of it. And it would gradually kill the forum.

Just because someone posts on a forum doesn't make them any more worthy or deserving of the community's trust. By raising it to 200 you are basically asking for more spam posts and making it harder for people to sell their goods. Sure, adding a 200 post count barrier might seem like a good idea, but scammers will easily get past it if they have money as a motive. Especially on a forum where people sell items worth hundreds. It's up to the purchaser to decide whether the seller is a scammer or not. I see the rationality in a 50 post count limit, but 200 seems like a stretch and will just push people to sell their items elsewhere.

I think maybe some boards with stringer restrictions like you need X posts to post here or you need to get aproved by mod to post there.
To find info for free is the cool think of AG, I hate it when google cached something and I am not allowed to view it.
Links or donwloads for members only is fine by me, also if its means I need to have 200 posts or be a member for 5 month (or a website donater)
I think AG is a nice place and there are more forums like this, but there are also many noobs and X-S like websites, or worse. I dont like that to happen to this place.

Its properbly dificult to maintain a balance, my own forum did well till some regular guys dint come over anymore. spam bots everywhere and no new intresting stuff, AG happens to have this everyday a new intresting post. and just about a good volume of users who post informative and/or funny posts. I dont post alott, mainly because english isnt my main language, and also because some people can take my words wrong. but maybe thats just me, and I just should post more and trust others more. I dunno. Go away spammers and to people who want to sell stuff, go ebay, we will find it if you put the right keywords on it. I exidently got a MSX computer part last week, wy do I keep looking for those things online ?

Long post, luckely my Post count is only +1, there is no word count here :D ow and I like the logo, but not the Blue :/ gonna change my theme.

In BetaArchive you need a ceirtain amount of CONTRIBUTING posts to access most of the forums and the FTP server. It's a good idea but it would triple the workload of our admins.

If scammers can get past 200 they can get past 50 even easier. If they spam their way to 200 posts they will throw up plenty of red flags making them much easier to spot. Anyone spamming their way to simply sell in the market doesn't deserve to be here nor do I believe anyone who comes here just to sell really needs to be here either. This place is not anyone's personal flea market. And quite frankly I don't care if raising the limit 150 posts "making it harder for people to sell their goods". If they care about this place beyond making a buck they will stick around long enough to make that 200 post limit go by fast. Anyone whose motivation is to use this place, like I said, as a personal flea market does not get my respect.

Making this place invitation only is a great way to kill it off fast. We've had plenty of regulars join in the last 2 years it isn't funny and if it was invite only we'd probably not have seen even 1/4 of that.
