Would it be possible for someone to make an Everdrive type device for the MSX line of computers? As far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be a multicart or flashcart for the MSX (at least not a traditional one), which is odd considering how active the community is.

The various mappers, sound chips and other hardware spread across the MSX range might make it a tad difficult. I am sure l_oliveria will explain this in more detail.
There are CF interfaces around for the MSX, these mainly emulate the floppy drive but are useful tools for programmers.
Like anyone reads the rubbish in the signature.
I figured there was some reason that someone hasn't made one yet. Oh well, maybe in the future.

There was that MSX on a Chip device several years ago, sold from Japan. It's no longer made, and goes for several hundred dollars.

Yeah I remember that. But what I want is a simple flashcart (or multicart) that I can plug into my MSX2+. Importing MSX games to the US is way too expensive.Originally Posted by Greg2600

That MSX2 on a fpga is pretty cool. And Tempest, ofcourse importing games from Japan is expensive. Unfortunately you have to consider that when you buy an imported system.
It is very cool, I saw one in person when Eduardo (OpCode) had it at Digital Press several years ago. Like the cuttle cart 7800, didn't understand why they stopped making them?
I don't have MSX yet but after Turob ED and buying MSX I might be interested.
Oh I knew that going in. I just kept hoping for a multicart to make things easier. Once I get my disk drive working then maybe I can at least make disks for it which should increase my game collection greatly. I'd give up on it completely if it wasn't such a cool little system.

There are IDE and CF (compactflash card) interfaces to connect harddisks and use CF cards, like these (website not maintained anymore)

Also, I've created the Nowind-interface (http://nowind.nl/) myself, it is a MSX ==[USB]== PC interface, note however that both devices just behave like diskdrives and no extra (sound or game- hardware is present).
Also, none of these products are being sold anymore, so you will have to look second-hand.

Uh, not quite the same thing. The MSX is different from practically most other Japanese computers in that it relies so much on carts, so there's definitely a market for an all-in-one flash cart for the MSX (the MegaFlashROM above requires a disk drive or disk interface in order to flash it, so that wouldn't count).
Comparing the FM Towns to the MSX like this is flawed because the former mainly uses CDs, so if you want to try out some games it's just a matter of burning CDs which is stupidly easy to do. As for other systems like the X68000 and PC-98, you just have to write stuff on floppies which isn't too bad once you have the knowhow and hardware to do it.

I need to get one of those ;) or build something. But 99€ is cheap for a card like that I think considering the age of the msx and availability of cards like this.
