IMHO at this point, normal users won't benefit much from a DEX machine... even for new retail games someone should leak the debug eboots for them ...
What I predict is a new wave of scene drama :p

This isn't new news by any means, math was doing converts by using sonys servers, then came along someone very smart and was able to do it stand alone. I wont say his name because I dont know if he wants that info out there and you have to respect their privacy. After this one person had got it another figured it out, then another. The consensus was to keep it private for plenty of reasons and it wasn't to be elitist ass holes, it was done to protect it and also not see a flood of dex units turn up on ebay or others making a profit from this hard work. If someone really needed a DEX they were converted for them, but seeing the general public doesn't really need them... well you get the point. Many of the devs that work behind the shadows do not even own a DEX and yet they push out stuff for the PS3 all the time.
To answer a few Q's about DEX look it up on the wiki or the plethora of other places for everything you can do with a DEX.
We even have all the info on http://rebug.me just look for it.
And no this WONT let you "crack" TB eboots so please stop spreading false info.
For those of you that want to do this convert make sure you back up your original idps/eeid fully so you can go back to CEX, remember with a DEX you will have no bluray playback at all and 0 retail support above 3.55 and even on 3.55 you need to patch the FW (or other tricks if you want but I wont get into it here).
Can you upgrade to 4.xx and run homebrew?? of coarse you can (with fself) but guess what?? NO PEEK/POKE so guess what that means... theres not a whole lot of homebrew you'll be using, NO ISO BACKUPS which im sure 99% are concerned about :P (please dont bother getting into an argument about this one with me and say OHHH I want it for linux only) because I can care less if your a warez kiddie or not.
Anyway like i said in my first post, this was a very bad release and very damaging, it had legit reasoning behind why it wasn't released months ago. Respect the original dev for not releasing but I'm sure he'll be chiming in on twitter or some forums in the very near future :P

Are you referring to the fact that ppl buy/sell DEX machines here and someone could easily get scammed from a "non original" DEX machine? EvilSperm above commented on this, it's a bad thing unfortunately...

So glad I sold my DEX last week. Anyway, it shouldn't be incredibly hard not to get scammed as long as people take listings with a grain of salt and view plenty of pictures (especially the sticker on the bottom of the case and the TEST marking on the top)
So does the HDCP disabling function work? I dont care about piracy, homebrew, bluray support, or anything like that. Id take disabling HDCP and playing (disk-based) games over any of those.
I don't see how this would hurt any dev at all. All I can see is drama on the PS3 Scene.
If I'm not mistaken the 360 got a debug way too and I don't see people crying over it.
Since mathieulh/geohot era we have a secret information scene. The wiki is full of lies and miss information that were put there on purpose.
You can easily check if you're buying a real DEX unit. It's just drama of people that had this information on their little boys club and didn't want anybody else to have it.
The DEX converted unit has no access to DevNet because the IDPS will never match with Sony's servers.

No, it won't work due to OTP limitations on the HDMI chip.
I always like to see this kind of information come up, though I hate all the drama that it usually generates.
As it was already stated here: someone looking for a DEX should be able to request the needed proof to the seller (ie. wording at the top of the console and matching model number in the sticker).
If someone falls for a CEX when trying to get a DEX, he/she deserves it for not researching. (I say this because they're not hard to differentiate if you get the right pics/info)
Just built master disc to test it, than will know real DEX or not :)
