    Anime Talk

Surprised there isn't a dedicated Anime thread. Besides the Anime on Blu Ray thread.

Anyways I've gotten back on an Anime Kick after watching Ouran High School Host club (May Kamiya's grandmother DIE FROM A MASSIVE STROKE) Right now I'm on the last 3 episodes of Samurai Champloo (My Favorite Anime ever)

Being a fan of Champloo and of course Cowboy Bebop I'm quite excited that Michiko To Hatchan got Licensed for the states 3 YEARS after ending in Japan.

SO..... Favorites? Suggestions? Things worth bending over backwards to splurge on importing?

    Ok... GO!

I've watched, and thoroughly enjoyed the following TV series (that I can remember)

    Ano Natsu de Matteru
    Death note
    Code Geass
    Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle
    Fate/Zero
    The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Toaru Majitsu no Index (and no Railgun)
    Cowboy Bebop

And for movies, anything that's from Studio Ghibli.

I'll try out Ouran High School Host club after I finish Ano Hana, and check out Champloo. Never heard of it, but I'll see how it is.

EDIT- I see that Ouran High School Host club is not an amine series... live acting isn't really my thing- I'm too white for that (plus I don't like it)

I'll have to check out Samurai Champloo, never heard of it. And yeah, Ouran is awesome, super funny. (It actually is an anime, Defect, but yeah there's also a live action version)

I second Defect on Haruhi! It's the series that got me into anime, and still by far my favorite. Great characters, and it's high school (of course) mixed with a bit of mystery and paranormal happenings.
Really most of my favorite animes are all by the Haruhi guys, Kyoto Animation. Lucky Star is hilarious, and Clannad & especially Kanon are amazing.

Paprika is a spectacular film, and I really liked The Girl Who Leapt Through Time too.

Man I love keeping checklists, and anime is no different. http://myanimelist.net is great for keeping track of what you've watched.
    Here's mine: http://myanimelist.net/profile/CoinCollector

PS: And of course, I'd say watch all of this subbed if possible (or just in Japanese if you know it!). I am not a fan of the English actors in Haruhi....

my checklist? My anime folder on my desktop. I don't believe in watching stuff online- Bakabt is the best for anime.

I can't STAND english dubbed. I just can't even get myself to watch 15 minutes on any episode. It's horrible, and I can't take anything seriously.

I'm currently downloading a huge ton of anime so that I can bring it with me on a coule trips I'll be doing soon. Chances are i won't have internet, or a laptop with me (unless I buy a laptop in the next couple days). I was recommended to watch clannad, but so far I can't seem to find a good download of it.
lucky Star and Kanon though. Never heard of them, will check them out.

I personally think this a great thread- we can all share anime that we are watching and help each other to build up a watch list. Mine was draining quickly, so this is a booster for it. Thanks!

I think my favorite anime is Darker Than Black. (The first series didn't make it through the second one). Usually I can see what's coming in a show but with darker than black it kept me guessing all the way through.

I'm a big fan of Satoshi Kon's work (RiP). Paprika is currently my favorite anime film of all time. I love everything about it, the story, visuals, and THE MUSIC.

I don't own a lot of anime. Currently I've got:

    Evangelion Platinum Series
    Samurai7
    Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22
    Akira
    Nausicaa
    Ponyo
    Paprika (of course)
    Tokyo Godfathers

I also really enjoyed "Millenium Actress". Such a beautiful, sad film. And THE MUSIC.

Samurai Champloo is basically Cowboy Bebop in the Ego Period replacing Jazz with Hip Hop.

Currently I'm replacing most of my anime DVDs with Blu Rays I've more or less sold off half my Anime DVDs and some things mentioned by others in this thread were amongst them.

My small Anime Blu Ray collection is

    Ouran High School Host club
    Burst Angel
    Samurai Champloo

    Eva 1.11 and 2.22
    Summer Wars
    Arietty
    Whispers of the heart
Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade works

I'd be up until 5 if I was listing all my Anime DVDs

Is Fate Stay Night good? I've got it, but haven't bothered to watch it with everything else I've got.

I've never been an anime fan: the only things I've seen are the usual popular ones like Akira and Ghost in the Shell, with one exception: Serial Experiments Lain. It's a great show if you like screwed up psychological (post-)cyberpunk horror.

Well it depends, if you are sixteen is a nice anime. If you haven't seen a lot of anime, it is still good. But in every other case is bloody boring and kinda cliche -_-

Gurren Lagan goes completely to shit in it's 2nd half and has the typical WTF Gainax ending.
as for Fate/Stay I'm a type Moon fan so I'll probably enjoy it I haven't watched it yet I started to then decided to watch Ouran.

I never "GOT" Akira as in I never understood it one of my last DVD purchases was a rebuy of the Akira Steel Box. I'll have to rewatch it in the near future.

Akira makes more sense if you've read at least some of the manga...not that it still isn't confusing.

As someone who doesn't watch much anime, I really enjoyed Samurai Champloo and School Rumble.

anyone who likes the Walking Dead owes it to themselves to check out High School of the dead. Anime Cleche' Teens + Walking Dead= High School of the dead. It's almost a parody of anime in how they pulled it off.

Plus there is the fact the characters aren't a bunch of fucking morons like in The Walking Dead.
Well, it's rather brutal here. Right now we are advising all our clients to put everything they've got into canned food and shotguns.

It's a good mix of great Zombie killin drama and fan service. The only real complaint I have about it is it just sorta ENDS
