    Df DC1 Pronunciation of 'Shenmue'?

    Is it 'Shenm-way' or 'Shenm-you'?

I've heard it said both ways, is there a consensus as to it's pronunciation that I'm not aware of?

"Shi-en-moo" is how I've always pronounced it.

What's so wrong about just saying "Shen Moo"? It's written シェンムー (Shenmū) in Japanese, so this is the pronunciation the creators were going for.

Since the word "Shenmue" in the game is the name of a tree located in China, however, one could also think that the original Mandarin pronunciation is the correct one. In this case "Shenmue" would be written 莎木 and pronounced Shāmù. You can listen to it on google translate.

But still, if anyone would ramble on about Shenmue calling it "Shamu" like a smartass, I'd probably be very tempted to bitchslap him :P
<- can someone please make this as a repro and sell it so me?

I say Shen-mew but that's just me, likely not the proper way to say it.

I've always pronounced it Shen-moo. Probably because I'm an American and speak English.

Shen-moo. It is how every employee of Sega I've heard say the name pronounce it. Anything else is incorrect and you deserve those funny looks.

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.

That's how I've always pronounced it. I never really thought about it before.

Yep, 100% it is Shen-moo That's even how they say it in the game (Japanese and the poor English dub version).

Doesn't Ryo go around saying "I'm looking for sailors" as well in the dubbed version :)

I think Shampoo in your avatar would say it that way (^-^) Actually, I've heard a few people say it like that too. It's probably because of the "e" they stuck on the roman spelling.

The pronunciation is not very ambiguous when the Katakana letters tell you how to pronounce it (Shen-moo)

Shen-moo - never even given a thought that it may be pronounced differently
