Movies that intertwine with our lives

I had no idea what to title this thread.

Best Buy had a sale last week and I picked up the Rocky Blu Ray Set for about $30. Rocky is a bit of a sentimental favorite my parents first date was Rocky 1.
Which, is pretty awesome but I was just watching Rocky III (and as I type this I'm watching the cheesefest training Montage in Rocky IV) and it turns out the date that Clubber Lang defeated Rocky and Mikey died was My Birthday not just my birthday but the EXACT DATE OF MY BIRTH.

    Crazy shit

    So......

    Top that

Movie, date of an event in a movie, signifiant life event becuase of a movie....

    Ok Shoot!

I'll be back to check after Rocky whips Drago's ass.

Got a temp ban for losing my temper with a few members, distanced by self from here after that ban was lifted posted on Digital press for a while found no matter how dickish people on here can be Digital press members are worse. Swallowed my pride and decided to come back here.

Also movies, ALOT of movies. I haven't even had my Blu Ray player for 2 months an already I think I have close to 20 movies.

I was alive when Skynet became self-aware on August 29, 1997 and when Unicron tried to eat Cybertron in 2005.

Classic Ok this is pathetic but I've never seen the Terminator films. I am tempted to at least get 2 on Blu Ray.

2 might be the best action movie ever, 1 is also very good, 3 is pretty crap and I haven't seen Salvation.

I love all three of them.

1: hardcore dirty 80's action shit (like Robocop minus the splatter) and my personal favorite
2: excellent action choreography, superb script, video game references - unfortunately featuring an annoying boy as second leading role who forbids the Terminator to kill (wtf)
3: again superb action, script is good as well but has some minor flaws with the characters and stuff. Still not a bad movie!

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronices & Terminator Salvation: You may use either of these to wipe your trusty bottom after the big business
<- can someone please make this as a repro and sell it so me?

There's way more than minor flaws in T3. Some huge plot holes: How can the new T-800 know John Connor when the T-800 that actually met him sunk into lava at the end of T2? If the T-800 had a nuclear battery inside it, why didn't it just blow John Connor up with that in T1? Plus the way it shits all over the plot of T2: "There is no fate? Surprise! There totally is!" and that scene where John Connor uses the power of friendship to make the T-800 overcome its new "kill John Connor" programming, which is a plot device so lazy it was stolen from every Saturday morning cartoon ever. There are a couple of good action scenes in T3, but that's about it...

It's all good. I've been going back and watching a lot of classic/must-see movies and it always amazes me when I hear a line or watch a scene and go "OOOHHHH, this is what that's from!!!" Like some iconic line or scene. haha

You can skip Alien 3 too, at least in my opinion. All it does is make me even more sorry for Paul McGann, the George Lazenby of Doctor Who.

I only recently saw Casablanca in my film analysis class and bought the blu ray recently. So many classic lines in Casablanca uttered in other films (Including the Ninja turtle movies)

The Casablanca blu ray is the best blu ray I've seen yet, a ton of great extras and the movie even though it's a 4:3 movie was the best transfer I've seen yet. Apparently it's a 4K scan.

Can't wait to see how North by Northwest looks that one got an 8K scan for it's transfer.

Watch the director's cut of Alien and Aliens and forget both Alien 3 and Resurrection. Also liked Event Horizon, but most people trash it.

Anyway, i was surprised to see lots of famous people that were born on the same day as i: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2

Resurrection I know to skip since I saw the Nostalgia Critic's review of it and it did look pretty bad.

what exactly was so bad about 3?

I agree that he was very good; just listened to the audio play The Chimes of Midnight a few days ago, great stuff. Unfortunately, the only time he got to play the Doctor on TV was in a really bad movie, and most people have forgotten or don't know he was ever the Doctor, which is where the George Lazenby comparison comes in. Sure, he got to star in a lot of audio plays afterwards, but that stuff is for a strictly niche audience.

As far as I remember, he didn't know John Connor at all. The Terminator was just chosen as a John's protector because John would be familiar with its appearance. Hence all the recap between John and the Terminator.

If the T-800 had a nuclear battery inside it, why didn't it just blow John Connor up with that in T1?
Nuclear battery =! nuclear bomb.. the explosion was already quite big, do you think it should've been a lot bigger just because it's a nuclear battery? If anything, then I'd be worried about the radiation level in John's hideout and the longterm consequences for his girlfriend's fertility. :D

Plus the way it shits all over the plot of T2: "There is no fate? Surprise! There totally is!"
Well, that's what sequels do, isn't it? If a movie wasn't designed to be continued, then a sequel has to shit all over some parts of its predecessor. And I believe it's pretty obvious that T2's story was not exactly designed to be continued.

and that scene where John Connor uses the power of friendship to make the T-800 overcome its new "kill John Connor" programming
Yeah, that was cheesy, but actually it wasn't John Connor who made him overcome the programming but the T-850 shut itself down before it could attack John Connor.
And if you mind this scene for being too cheesy, what about Terminator 2 then? Basically all the interaction between John and the Terminator make me cringe.

I actually meant to write Sarah Connor since the whole movie was about killing her. Even Kyle Reese said the only reason Skynet didn't send a nuke back in time was because inorganic matter couldn't be sent through time (which doesn't make any sense since T-1000 was sent through, but whatever), so it seems like the Terminator should've just pulled out the battery after finding Sarah and leveled a few city blocks. Of course it didn't do that because the nuclear battery only existed because of T3's bad writing 17 years later.

Gee, maybe they shouldn't have made another Terminator movie then.

Yeah, those scenes are pretty cheesy, but so was everything else in the early 90s. We're just lucky the end credits didn't have an MC Hammer song about the Terminator. The power of FRIENDSHIP still annoys me more because it's straight out a cartoon.

The production of 3 was a disaster with a lot of different scripts, including one by William Gibson, being cycled through and the one they ended up with is...just boring and weird. And I really hate how the survivors from Aliens die off camera at the beginning of the movie, after Aliens built up a lot of sympathy and character development for them.
