Thread: Everdrive 64 running slowly

    N64 Everdrive 64 running slowly

Hey when I play certain games, they run slow. Meaning they lag a bit in more intense 3D areas. Is this normal? (Mario 64, king bomb level)

For example the games run 20 FPS instead of 30 lets say.

    Is this unsual?

I'm using a standard SD 2GB card. I got the rome from coolroms. So I don't know if they are modified to preform better for emulators.

    Thanks for the help.
I don't have carts to compare and the ones I do have run very well on the everdrive 64.

are you using roms from the right region?

I believe I am. Only because they don't appear gray and distorted like some of the roms. I don't know how to check. But I do know that the PAL roms sometimes have language selection.

Could a SDHC card run faster? The games load quickly. But is the Everdrive the fastest cart? Meaning the core of its processing is speedier?

The EverDrive 64 does not affect gameplay speed or framerate. If the game has a poor framerate, that's just how it is. Lots of early 3D games had poor framerates or framerate drops when more is going on. This is not the EverDrive's fault. The EverDrive emulates the original cartridge. Game performance is just like the original game carts.

As MottZilla said, the EverDrive 64 does not have an effect on the gameplay speed.
It is simply just a cartridge that has multiple games. It is not emulating them.

Thanks guys! Yeah I was pretty used to the performance enhancements of emulators. But playing the original N64 if so much better! Most emulators are glitchy anyhow.

That's right. Emulators are far from the performance of the real machine. I recall so many graphical issues and other issues when attempting to emulate N64 games. Plus no controller ever really was a good replacement for the N64 controller. You would have to configure it differently for each individual game.

Could it be that the RAM chip soldered on the Everdrive Cart is faulty? If the RAM chip is below the speed specifications, the ROM data could be transfered to the console slower than the usual which could result in some case as a lag.

    Just a tought!

No, it is working is not like you thinking. if chip was more slow than need, n64 just hang immediately and that's all. n64 can't wait when cart will be ready, console just reads data with permanent speed and don't ask the cart if he ready or not
I looking for genesis 2 with motherboard VA2
