dont understand how to save on super everdrive
Hi I have an ultimate super everdrive and I really dont seem to understand how to save or load the save.. I have tried many things. here is what I do you tell me what im doing wrong
1: have auto save on
2: choose a game + sometimes it says saving to sram
3: play for a bit and press reset
4: look for saved file on the game ... which doesnt always exsist in sevrd file
5: press load from sd and select the saved file .. sometimes says done + to press any button
6: after pressing a button nothing happens? pther than to go ack to the main load / save screens do i now need to reselect the game as from the start? ... if I do there is no save being used and it starts again !
7: I have also tried formatting the sd card and erasing the save data to try again
maybe Im missing something obvious I just want to get it relyably working before I start putting time into lenghty games
please help ? thanks
Hi Rnf, it only writes the savefile to the Sd card when you switch games.
I don't believe save file is written until you flash another game.
Maybe it will make more sense if its explained how it works. When you save a game (in-game), for example in SMW it saves that data to a memory bank (not the SD card). The Super EverDrive uses flash memory and doesn't lose the data even if power is off. So until you flash another game there is no reason for the Super EverDrive to save the data to the SD card. Once you go flash another game it transfers the game save memory to the SD card and then flashes new game. If that new game has a save data file associated with it it also loads that file in the memory bank at this time so your game saves will show up in game.
If you have Auto BackUp enabled you do NOT need to Load/Save the save data to and from the memory bank.
Sounds like you are trying to use this like a Super PowerPak. They work differently.
This is not to say there is not a problem, but I would suggest trying to use it correctly first and then see if the problem persists. It will be easier for us to diagnose and problem easier.
- Make sure Auto BackUp is on
- Flash Super Mario World
- Play the game to a save point
- Turn system off and on
- Flash a different game
- Look for SMW save file, I believe it ends in SRM extension
- If you see it then it worked correctly so far
- Now flash SMW again
- Is your save there?
ok great thanks that makes alot more sense and I tried your method and it worked.... does this mean then that it cannot save a game like lets say final fight on level 3 if you just want to switch it off, ie it only saves at points where the actual game saves the game has the option to save?
Super EverDrive (and most other flash carts) only support saving exactly as the original game did. I think what you are taking about is save states (or snap shot saves). Many emulators support save states, but most flash carts do not. Remember flash carts are basically acting like the original game, they can't do anything too fancy beyond the limits of the hardware. Emulators can because they are run on powerful hardware. Flash carts are still at the mercy of the original hardware. In the case of the Super EverDrive it actually uses the SNES' CPU to do its processing. The only flash cart I actually know of that has save states is the Mega EverDrive. Maybe there are others I am unsure.

1 last question I know its a pretty certain no but is there any special buttons you can press on the pad whilst playing to reset the everdrive or snes ? .. just wondered if the super everdrive had something mad like that as its annoying to keep going over to the console to reset heh, I dunno if that would be possible?
No you can't reset or get back to menu remotely.
