Genesis My Sega Genesis and SMS Collection

    Hey all,
I'm new to Assembler and I've already had a great time here viewing so many awesome retro video game collections!
So much so that I wanted to join the community.

This is my Sega Genesis, Japanese Mega Drive and Sega Master System collection. A handful of the Genesis games I had from back when the system was current. Most games I started collecting somewhere around 1999. First I was only focused on the SMS and then later I expanded into the Genesis.

I have some more pictures on my wordpress site @ http://thesegacollection.wordpress.com/the-collection/

I know it's very subjective and hard to define but I'd say most of my games are complete and in excellent condition. You might notice I also have a hand full of Sega Mark III games. I still haven't decided if I really want to collect them. I've been slowly pulling them off the shelf as I've needed room for more Genesis / Mega Drive games. I'll likely put them all back when I get another shelf unit. I'm coming due to update my collection photo as I have enough games now to fill another single shelf. About half of my games not shown can been seen in my blog post @ http://thesegacollection.wordpress.c...seventh-shelf/

More recently I have been pretty good at updating my collection spread sheet @ http://thesegacollection.wordpress.com/collection-list/ <-- just a list here, not so exciting

That's a really pretty collection, congratulations! And surely is time-consuming to mantain a blog about your collection, I liked it :)
    Insert stupid poem here.

Thanks AleffCorrea :) Yes, boxed Sega games really do look pretty. In particular the Mega Drive and Genesis clam shells. I could fit in a lot more if I just lined them up like books but I really wanted to see more of them so I faced some of my favorite games.
Thanks for checking out my blog. And you're right it is a bit time-consuming and somewhat difficult to blog about nothing! I have no idea how to make it interesting! :P

Wow! Nice collection and very nice website! Welcome to the party, we saved you a seat and some cake!
I've added your blog into my RSS reader thing. Going to take a while to play catchup on that one!

Edit: I love the way you've integrated the spreadsheet in there to list your collection too! *Sigh* Why did they ever use cardboard cases for any game... what a terrible way for a game to live!

So many wonderful collections on here, and this is just another example of that. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in the least bit envious. Knowing that there's more to see in your blog, that will be my next stop. :)

Thanks! You comment was going straight to my head until I check out your equally "very nice" website and realized we're both using the same Wordpress template :) You have good taste RetroJunkie. Good for us! Are you hosting for free on wordpress and just using your own registered domain name or are you hosting indepently of wordpress? I'm currious about the added functionally you can gain when leaving wordpress hosting. I'm currious about your impressions of it and wondering if it's worth the money and effort.

Your site is wildly more technical then mine. It's very inspiring. I've been thinking about getting my feet wet with some simple Genesis mods like region switches.

I agree about cardboard cases. I'm really glad so few Mega Drive/Genesis games are cardboard. That's problably the only reason why I'm not also collection SNES games. I need pretty cases, it fuels the compulsion.

I created the spread sheet in excel and I've integrated it into the site by using Google docs. It made it pretty simple. Very much like embedding a youtube video.
The idea was to include my stuff for trade but I haven't gotten there yet.

And thanks for checking out my blog. Visitors are so rare I've always considered it more of a diary :P

I agree! I was blown away by some of the collections images I found here. I'm glad you got a kick out of seeing my small corner of the Sega Univrse :)

Somewhere around 1999 I found them in a hock shop. If I remember right I spent $15 or $20 on them. They in excellent condition. I don't go out of my way for accessories but if I happen by them for cheap I'll happily pick them up.

    Welcome!
Thanks all! You're a pretty friendly bunch here. As much as I love collecting these games I also really love seeing what other are up to. Finding this site was a serious score!

What's not to love about a great MD collection! Or does the SMS get more play time?

Lately both haven't been getting enough TLC. A few weeks ago I've been playing Wonder Boy in Monster World for the Gensis. I'm at the pyramid stage. I LOVE being able to save my progress! I found Wonder Boy in Monster World for the Sega Master System was always a little daunting because you had to start from the beginning each time (Still loved it!).
I've also been playing some Chiki Chiki Boys. I had no idea about this game before I bought it and wow, it's really good! I wish I knew about it back in the day.
I've also recently been playing some Elemental Master. It's not as pretty as I remember it but the music rocks and it's still a really good game.

Lately the itch to play some SMS has been getting more intense. I think I'm going to start up Golvellius again. I've been far but I never did beat it. That should be fun.
I'm also keen to play Mirracle Warriors again. Back in the day I didn't know of anyone who had it and I loved it. I think it gets over looked a lot. It's one of the few games I beat as a kid and it was a spectacular moment for me :)
I've also been thinking about Quartet a lot. I got it with my SMS and I think it's a great game! Not too long and not too hard but really fun to play.

Unless you want a particular domain name or to remove .wordpress from your web address, there's no real advantage at all!

I've got two region mods in progress at the moment... I've misplaced by dremel and drill! Definitely look into doing the mods though, just make sure you have a spare "normal" console for preservation :-)

I just gave the spreadsheets a whirl and they seem to work, I might end up implementing them somehow, although I was planning some sort of integrated FileMaker database to keep track of all my things! So many things!

    Keep up the good work!
