Do we really have to thank people?

I think it messes up the layout making it a bit of a pain to browse through a thread fluently. Also why do we have to thank anyone anyway? To provide an incentive to make higher quality postings? I honestly do not think this forum needs to increase quality this badly. I know this "thank you"-system from pages that provide download-links and efficient uploaders are rewarded with lots of thanks in few postings, so they stand out as a contributing member of the community. I somehow doubt that this is what ASSEMblergames should be compared to though.
<- can someone please make this as a repro and sell it so me?

I'm not against facebook or anything of the like, but the "social media" aspect of the internet is getting a bit out of hand. I'd have to agree that it messes up the layout and is wholesomely unnecessary. If someone is grateful for something they usually say it and if they don't, oh well?

Clicking a button to make it publicly known you're thanking someone for a "useful post" cheapens the whole thing.

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.

Not to forget that we already had a reputation system, well hidden in the background without bothersome thank you-lists below each post.

I also just noticed this when I wasn't logged in. Oooh the irony. Maybe I was mistaken in my first post:

ROFL. All the brewhaha over not using images of women for avatars/sigs due to women not being solely for decorative purposes and here we have an exaggerated (feminine features) video game character being used as decoration.

I should set mine, from the PSX-scene forums. :)

Well, I believe that the "thanks" button is necessary for some releases - as thousands of people will download the release and hundreds will make one post to say "thanks!" whenever you make an update.

Such a system will allow the thread to stay as clean and as on-topic as possible, as people have another way to express gratitude without making a post which would be (most likely) not related to the topic of the thread (Unless saying "thanks" is the topic...).

I'm OK with it. It's kinda cool, but it's funny that the long term members will have the same "Thanks" levels as new-er members. That is, new-er members that post useful things.

The site is modernizing. The thanks system aka "like" button relates to how
the new people on the internet think. Change is always difficult for some people.

As to tifa, tifa is depicted pretty much how she looked in ff7 but in 2D.
I plan to add a rotating " hey, you, register!" image bank.

This is an official goods statue of tifa. It's far more sensualized than the moe image I used.

Hahah, but come on, don't you see how it shoves unnecessary blocks between each post and thereby makes it visually unpleasant? I am not generally against a reputation system, but integrating this type of it in the forum makes Assemblergames look like a warez site, seriously. I have yet to see this system on a page that does not offer download-links to filehosters for movies and porn.
Are there different styles to choose from? Like a small status bar similar to the one in the old forum and no mentioning of thanks below the respective posts? I just find it pretty ghetto as of now with all those statistics below one's nickname.

Unless the thanks link should only work in the downloads section?

I'm fine with change so long as it is for the better. This would be fine if it was delegated to the side and wasn't some god awful visual interruption; this coming from a guy who doesn't find the Prius to be ugly. The "like" button is a unobtrusive item placed in a way that does not get in the way of Facebook's design which hardly qualifies as a valid comparison.

As for modernization, I don't think modeling this place after Facebook will be of much benefit. Then again this is your site and you are free to do as you wish.

I never said I was emulating facebook.

If the mod is unpopular, I will remove it.

Need to give it a chance and see if it is used or not.

I don't care for it. I won't use it. However, I "thanked" the OP for bringing this to light. ;)

Eww.... I just don't see the point... wanna say thank you, say it to that person and provide some reasoning/emotion behind it, not boost their ego with "Thank-you Points". I just hate systems like this, because you then see people who become crazed with having a high number, going as far to request +Rep (or thanks) in their posts, and that is fully retarded. ( hopefully, this won't be the case... I just believe it is a fair assumption seeing as how i've witnessed it on many other forums with that similar feature.)

If the argument is that people can easily scan a member to see if he would be reputable to buy from... Isn't that what the Feedback forum is for? It's also common sense to observe the forum as a whole and how others react to a certain member to try and gauge his "honesty" (reliability) and check up on previous transactions.

In the end, am I making too big a deal out of this thank you feature? Definitely, but that doesn't dissolve it of its uselessness.

I feel that posting a thank you post is more honest than just clicking a button.
