I am finally getting around to throwing a bunch of stuff away, I found my PS3 and Wii boxes. Are they worth keeping? I know the older system's that are boxed are worth a lot, But with this generation being as long as it has been. Is it worth to keep them?
I'd say so, the snes and megadrive generation was pretty long too
When I moved a couple of years ago, I threw away my 360 and Wii boxes, and when I got my PS3 I got rid of the box right away. Fuck it, they're just cardboard boxes that take up way too much space and aren't especially cool looking or anything.
You can always fold them up to save space. Though that doesn't help with any foam inserts.
I'd never throw them away, even if it's just for storage. I don't use my old Xbox or N64 these days - the boxes also aren't worth a whole lot, but they are very convenient to store the consoles. Where would you put loose hardware? That always pissed me off, one of the reasons why I only collect/own boxed hardware and very few loose things like cables/superguns, stuff that never really an original box.

Wow, I know that some people think that way. But for me, I've actually bought things just for the box. n.n
Eventually the PS3, Wii and 360 will be the same age as a SNES or Genesis. That doesn't mean a complete, boxed PS3 will be worth what a complete boxed SNES is today but you won't know if you toss it.
Though I fully understand where you are coming from. They take up a lot of space and aren't that useful in the mean time.

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.
I save every box to anything i might resell. even have a microwave box in the basement.
I'm keeping the box to any system I buy new from the store- which is basically nothing besides my Vita.
If you see an old system for sale, chances are the price is marginally higher if the box is included, further still if it's in good condition.
It's worth keeping the boxes for all your consoles and games, just look at how the Nintendo 64 games are worth in box.
Then again, not EVERYONE is a collector. It's all a matter of how and what you want to keep...
Funny story, I kept a ton of game console boxes in my parents' attic, but at some point they decided to throw most of them away. I still have my 360, PS3, 3DS, PSP, Gamecube, and Dreamcast boxes. I also have the box my Game Boy Printer came in, and I think I have a GBA SP box lying around somewhere. I plan on keeping them all for as long as possible. I generally don't buy boxed used consoles, just because they usually cost much more than loose consoles, and it doesn't really seem worth it; I really just want the console. I can definitely see the appeal of boxes, though.
As for storing consoles, I usually just stack mine up on a shelf. Many consoles are nearly flat and the ones that aren't are close enough, so you can stack up a bunch of consoles on a small shelf. Some would probably find that aesthetically unappealing, but personally I like it. That way, it feels like a collection of hardware - kind of like how a computer shop might have rows and rows of computer parts stacked up. Several of my consoles are duplicates or triplicates, so that adds to that feeling, I guess.
Just remember: there's a fine line between collector and hoarder :D

The way I see it, it's hardly worth cluttering my place up with huge cardboard boxes just because the systems MIGHT be a little more valuable with the boxes in like 10 years.
I'd like to consider myself a collector rather than a hoarder, but one sign that I may be balancing on that edge is the fact that I have a lot of broken/nonworking consoles. Most of them have been taken apart, and I never bothered to put them back together - so they're just lying in pieces that will probably never be totally reassembled because I either lost the screws or I don't remember how the thing fit together. I keep them because I know they can be useful for parts in case a working console dies. If I were really hurting for space and needed to get rid of some stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to throw them away/sell them.
Everytime Ive thrown away a box Ive always kicked myself later, so now I try to make room for them. It does suck sometimes because they do take up a lot of room but not as much as when I need to store a console or resell something and I dont have the box.
