Quick question on the Everdrive MD.

Why does it randomly freeze with memory error codes on screen when playing a standard Genesis ROM through 32X? 32X ROMs seen to do fine.

it is just a random luck. Same burning routine used for 32x and genesis roms. probably will work fine with enabled genny3 mode or with another sd card
I looking for genesis 2 with motherboard VA2

Another quick question: How big is the RAM the game is flashed to for playing? Need to know for some hacks I got that are rather large. Specifically one called Sonic VR. It is 6 MB (48 mbit) in size.

Thanks. No wonder that game failed to flash. Damnit. Oh well. Next on list is the Mega ED. Time to save some cash up and get it.

Sonic VR won't run properly on the Mega ED either. It loads and starts fine, but crashes when you get to the actual gameplay. I've tried it on a couple different consoles with the same results.

Kind of a bummer; I really wanted to play that hack too.

You know it's funny how there are so many hacks that will run on an emulator but crash on the real deal. I've got like 120 plus Sonic the Hedgehog hacks on my ED and so far about 10 of them don't run. Maybe more since I haven't tried every game to verify working or SOL dead. At least my favorite hack works: Sonic 2 Heroes. Making a TAS of the game. Might try copying the NES BOT design and run it on the real deal with the ED. How's that for a setup? An Arduino powered bot running on a model 2 Genesis with a flash cart playing a hacked game perfectly. BTW if you don't know what NES BOT is go search it on YouTube. It's awesome.

some hacks really don't work on real hardware. also you guys should know that all addons must be disconnected in case if rom is bigger than 4mbyte (except SSF2), otherwise game will not work if 32x or cd addon is hooked up.
i read a bit about Sonic VR, looks like this game use bank switching, probably same mapper like in ssf2. I just need to modify OS a bit to support this game

Yeah I was wondering about that. It does play well in emulators but I don't know if Fusion 3.64 uses the bank switching or if the Genesis code is modified to allow bigger ROMs to run despite exceeding the address line limit.

Wow, I had no idea the Sega CD kept larger ROMs from running. That's very good to know. Is it the same situation with the 2-in-1 systems like the X'Eye and CDX? I know one of the older UMKT hacks won't work on my X'Eye, but I recall you saying that those don't work on real hardware anyway. I did find a newer hack, but I ended up boxing up my X'Eye and going back to my model 1 Genesis so I could play Master System games.

Awesome, I'd love to see that! I just figured it wouldn't play right on real hardware without the game itself being tweaked a bit, which I'm kind of used to with a lot of hacks.

I wish more ROM hackers would test on real hardware instead of emulators.

UMKT definitely will not work on X'Eye, cuz CD rom occupy part of address space which is need for game

I've read on this problem a bit. Seems that the standard address lines run out around the 32 mbit mark. Games that are larger than this without using the SSF2 mapper get by because they use extra address lines. Ones that would be occupied by the CD system and probably 32X too. So it works on systems that these can be removed from but others get no cheese. Like the X'Eye and CDX this won't work since the CD add-on is non-removable.
