Yeah, as much as VGA's system is a load of shit, they don't evaluate rarity, just the condition of the case on their own arbitrary whatever scale. It doesn't matter whether you send them FIFA 11 or Taroumaru.

You may want to re-read their site - condition is the only factor they consider. You could have the only copy of a game in existence, but if it's in shit condition they'll give it a shit grade. Likewise, you could have the most common game on earth and get a 100 if it's in perfect condition. So, no, you wouldn't be proving anything.

Now if you sent in a mangled copy of a game and got a high score, that would prove something.

You can say that until your tongue falls out, but there is very good evidence to prove that point wrong. Just like 7Force mentioned there are even sealed copies of games that are from THIS generation that go for $400, when you can simply just walk to your local gamestore and ask for a sealed copy or even so order one online.

So yes, Yakumo WOULD be proving something... It maybe a 'factor' but it's sure a factor they look at more than ANYTHING.

You do realize VGA doesn't sell or appraise games, right?

He was saying he'd send a common game in and get a high score. That wouldn't prove anything. Now if he meant he'd get a high-scoring common game and sell it for a ton of money, that'd prove how stupid some buyers are. That still wouldn't prove anything about VGA as a company.

I'm not sure you understand how VGA works.

They give a grade based on wear from 10 to 100. Someone sits down in a little booth and looking at every corner under high powered light and magnification notes any and all defects and signs of wear. Based on this report an overall score is given. It could be a common game or a rare game. A game worth $1 or one worth $10,000.... it doesn't matter. The VGA score only reflects the physical condition.

VGA itself has nothing to do with the price gouging on games they've rated. That's out of their control. VGA does not assign either a rarity or dollar value estimate as part of their ratings program, and is not a game reseller.

To discredit them in this way you'd have to prove rarer games consistently get unfairly higher condition scores than common games.

I guess the people who we should really be angry at are the idiots paying big money for common crap just because of the VGA rating. These people will ruin the gaming collectors scene if they carry on this way. It may take a few years but it will happen. Just imagine trying to buy a boxed copy of some shitty Fifa game but having to pay about 100 dollars for it. That's nuts.

Have any of the games actually sold at those prices? I see plenty of ridiculous prices, but nobody buying.

I have seen some completed listings on ebay that have been marked as sold ranging from 2000 to 30000 thousand dollars unless there is shill bidding or whatever it is called some crazy fool is actually buying this stuff.

Yes I'm fully aware they don't sell games, and only give a rating... There is nothing that shows their qualification cause of some sticker with a bunch of numbers on it...

I wouldn't even care how VGA works, they're a bunch of tools that just f-up the market, prices are high enough as they are we don't need some guy with a booth and high light to look at corners it's just stupid and nothing more about it... BUT YOU GET A PLASTIC BOX! -_-

You have to have shredded cheese in your head to even consider listing a game from VGA for nearly three thousand dollars, let alone actually buying one.

VGA reminds me of a over priced pawn shop that buy old women's gold and shove them into a cabinet with bright lights and slap a rating on it - I see nothing different to them as a company, it maybe my opinion on how I view VGA as a company but they don't help or do anything great now do they?

Nothing wrong with the VGA as a concept IMO if it was properly executed but it's technically impossible for them to verify the contents of a sealed package without breaking the seal(s).

The problem is people are taking their grading values as an absolute, when in reality their could be nothing but weights inside their $10k sealed stadium events and they'll never open it to find out, though if no one ever opens it then I guess it's irrelevant...

Also, just because there's been a few (<10) bigish money VGA sales recently I don't think it constitutes a fad just yet!

Fantastic, but that doesn't make the point I was trying to make any less valid. The idea mentioned would prove nothing, and your disdain for the company doesn't change that.

Do I think what they do makes everything worth tons more? Nope. But I'm not going to pretend someone getting a high score on a common game makes them a sham.

And how exactly does a company that neither buys nor sells games get compared with being an overpriced pawnshop? If anything they'd be the company that provides the displays (the VGA cases) to the pawnshop (the eBay sellers). So I say we wage war on Ikea next. Those shitbags provide shelving for all sorts of unsavoreable characters!

I'd really like to see some video/photos of VGA actually grading something, mentally I just see some dude sitting in his moms garage with a magnifying glass with cheetos crumbs strewn across his belly

proboably quite close to the truth.

you didnt seriously expect a crack team of scientists going thru a whole CSI episode to grade yakumos clockwork knights did you?

as for price gougers/game flippers, they have been around for ages, tons on this forum alone.
who cares if some yahoo lists his super mario copy for $100000000000 on ebay, no one is gonna buy it anyways, its like letters from nigeria, they have to send a million letters to get one idiot to bite.. get off your horses folks.
