Is there anyway to upgrade my hdd??

Okay so i know im one of the most annoying people on this site so far. but im just getting pissed with the xbox haha

im trying to upgrade my hard drive no matter what it wont let me.

Im using a sata hard drive with an ide - sata converter.

I tried cloning it with chimp, but nothing happens. ill do all the steps and then after i clone, maybe 3 seconds later it goes to the menu, then ill try to lock and instantly it goes to menu.

I also tried using xboxhdm. but my computer has no IDE ports what so ever and i keep getting something like "Linux CD Not Found" when i type in xboxhd

i dont know how to get make my cd rom drive a slave and my xbox hard drive a master. im trying to find some way to upgrade my harddrive without an ide cable with the exception of the one for the xbox and the adapter to the sata drive

What motherboard version is your Xbox?

Also to put a drive in slave or master you have to move the little plastic piece on the pins at the end of the hard drive. Usually there will be a picture on the hard drive itself about which position will put the drive in what mode.

Just my 2 cents from many hard drive upgrades... Install a mod chip and flash a good BIOS or use xboxhdm. I've never used chimp, and if i recall its more outdated than xboxHDM. I suspect your problems are likely from the converter. Gotta pay to play, if i were you i would try to buy up a modchip or buy an IDE controller that adds into your computers PCI slot.

Moontar were you ever on xbox-scene or a site called xmodsxtreme a while back? your name looks really familiar...

Xbox-Scene (still go there, just don't post very much). I use the same avatar for every site. I thought your username was familiar when I saw it also.

    would something like this work?

    http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CKoBEPMCMAM

because ive tried xboxhdm and i get the "Linux CD Not Found" error when i type in xboxhd in the cmd after booting from the hard drive in BIOS. also i would love to buy a mod chip but i cant afford it. thats why ive been going through all these cheap ways. but it seems like in the end i'll end up needing one lol

anyways if i got that ide controller i posted above, would that be all i need to get xboxhdm to work? everything in my computer runs with sata fyi

I would be weary over a 9$ product. Again, you gotta pay to play. Spend just a few more dollars so you know that the product will last and work as intended. As an alternative if your really crunched for money, look on craigslist for older legacy based PC's. I wouldn't be surprised if someone lists their old PC for a couple bucks or even for free.

    Good luck!

You do realise the cards you linked to use the EXACTLY THE SAME chip as the one he linked for $9, right?

It's not finding the HDD cause it's not on a MASTER IDE Slot, I don't think an adapter would work, but I guess someone could help you with that.

Swapping a new HDD on a softmod is near impossible, it involves a process which I honestly can't remember so I used the word "near".
Usually a modchip is used to do HDD upgrades...

I should also mention modchips are like what $9 (the price for a pack of DVDs) for a clone I believe, there isn't much risk involved. If you're worried about installing get someone to do it, or send it to someone... The max it could cost you is $29, I'm usually the one strict to money as well, but I don't get why you want to fuck around so much with a basic softmod...

Softmod isnt so hard. Get your HDD key, then prep a new drive in your PC and lock it using the key. Then just drop it straight into the xbox.

But I agree, modchip/tsop flash all the way.

You can try this method, but of course there is a lot of preparation (no PC required).

However, Bad_Ad84's suggestion would be the easiest, if you had a PC with IDE Master... Just remember there is two keys to a XBOX HDD, make sure you get the right one but I forgot the term for it. Do you know it Bad?

Master isnt what the xbox uses. You need the user key, which you need to softmod or dump the eeprom.

You could use an expansion card too, as the drive would be unlocked.

But doesn't the XBOXHDM disc need the HDD plugged into Master for it to work? Last time I tried it in slave it didn't...

Send me the mobo and a chip and I'll solder in it for nothing. Though I do accept cookies.
