Someone has asked me to do this mod for them which is no problem , I've done it before, the trouble is it's always been a bit untidy.
Is there a socket which would be cheap with a suitable number of pinswhich is easy to mount because whenever I make a hole in a case it always looks absolutely dreadful, my skills roughly amount to drilling holes and some light work with sandpaper and a file.

You can remove the RF module and then you can use a mini din 8. So there's no need to cut the case.
I guess. sms2's bad RF vs the desire for compatibility... it'd conflict me perhaps unnecessarily.
What compatibility are you talking about?
Bizarre event of wanting to use an RF TV. I'm one who considers remote options, then tends to overlook something obvious.
A better choice would be a 9-pin mini-DIN jack so you can use Genesis 2/MD II RGB cables.
Well yes, 9-pin makes it easier to split the mono for two speakers.
I went with an 8-pin mini-din and made a custom scart cable to go with it in the end, new problem, there's a buzzing noise in the background of the audio, is there any way to stop this?
How is the quality of the cable? I originally had my SMS2 (also RGB modded) and Mega Drive/32X/Mega CD going through a splitter on their way to a RGB-component converter. There was a "kshhhh" sound through the speakers, I removed the splitter (which to be honest, was cheap) and the sound was back to clear.

Well the cable isn't exactly top quality but I really want to avoid making a new one if at all possible, is there anything else it could be? Its not too bad to be honest, it was much worse going through my cheapo scart extension cable, if it can't be fixed without a new cable it should be ok to leave it
As an experiment, with my scart splitter I did use, I grounded all un-used wires. It improved it a little, but not by much.
OK! I have managed to solve the problem, mostly anyway!!
I had been using the same ground for the sound and the video and separated the sound for each speaker inside the console so a separate pin for right and a separate one for left.
I changed it so that the mono sound is fed to both speakers inside the scart plug and made the wire which I had been using for the right speaker an audio ground instead.While the buzzing sound is still there, I had to listen hard to hear it. I'm assuming that the only real way to fix this entirely would be to use better quality cables throughout?

Can you please post a pic with the way you conencted the mini din to your case?
As in the nuts and bolts?
It's nothing special, just a drilled hole for the socket then a hole drilled on each side to bolt it on
I'm too lazy and too much of a purist to go ripping out RF boxes
