I'm going to be in Sydney for two weeks visiting my little brother in July. Right now we don't have anything planned. I haven't seen him in a couple years so we're just gonna hang out and catch up. But are some things I NEED to do while I'm there? What are some can't miss things to do in and around Sydney?
What's the weather gonna be like? I tried asking my little bro all these questions and he just linked me to a Men at Work YouTube video.... He's a punk kid...

Spent some time in Sydney back in '98-99. Sega World was there, guessing maybe not any more???? Lots of cool stuff to see, you are going during winter so yep, sometimes it will only get to 40f during the day so no Bondi beach sun bathing lol. I have heard Melboune is the worst. 4 seasons in a day...

As for that, someone from Sydney here - the weather has been honestly a bit random and a bit shitty as of late so I would pack for both warm and cold weather.
Most likely will NOT see snow, more likely to see sleet and/or hail here. As of late, the weather has been either - sunny and warm, sunny and cold, cloudy, windy and cold.
So, fair warning - may look nice and sunny outside, but it might be cold to cloudy, winding and suddenly pouring rain on and off.
If you're going to be here in early July, on the 14th there is the Smash! - Sydney Manga & Anime Show/Convention at the Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre at Darling Harbour, I've not personally attended it but it's cheaper in contrast to Supanova (which is held in June in Sydney sadly) but Smash has picked up since it only started a couple of years ago from what I recall.
That said, I've heard it's quite good.
If the weather is fine, then I would try the beach - however Bondi tends to be packed (tourists everywhere) so you could also try Coogee, Maroubra or Malabar beaches. You can get a bus (or a bus in general anywhere along Anzac Parade) to them or if you felt a little adventurous you could walk the cliffs between the beaches and see which one suits you.
Coogee isn't too bad, a little busy. Fair warning though, wouldn't recommend buying food from the Coogee Hotel (one particular incident there, but should you ever go there - I'd still say not to), Maroubra beach isn't too bad, just be warned that it does actually get quite strong rips so unless you're a good swimmer - I'd listen to the lifeguards.
Malabar beach is a nice quiet place and you won't usually see many people around other than a couple of locals, just there's a few rocks and you might see a bit of either debris or shells washing up in large amounts on the shore.
Alternatively, you could also fork out for the Sydney & Bondi Explorer tour buses and get on and off after checking out some general spots (it'll also take you down to Bondi Beach if you make sure you get the right bus - the staff will tell you), just after recently going on it if you sit on the top (double decker bus), beware of all the goddamn tree branches in the CBD.
For other sightseeing, you could get a triple pass and check out the view from [url=www.sydneytowereye.com.au]Centrepoint Tower, or as it's now known as the "Sydney Tower Eye" - you can also book to have lunch or dinner in the reserved restaurant. If you get a triple pass, then you'll also be able to check out the Sydney Aquarium and the Wildlife park (which are next door to each other on Darling Harbour).
You can also go out onto a glass platform on Centrepoint Tower OR you could also do the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb
There's also Luna Park, not as good as the Melbourne one, but it's there. If your brother is also willing to drive, he could take you up to the Reptile Park which is much more hands-on with the wildlife than the one on Darling Harbour, but keep an eye on the Kangaroos as despite them letting you pat them - they can get a little territorial, though you may also get to watch a fight between our national coat of arms (Kangaroo & Emu) at it.

I'm a little worried about the weather. I'm gonna be leaving the beautiful southern California summer for some crazy weather it sounds like. xD
My brother didn't really have a proper 21st birthday (the legal drinking age here in the US), so he wants me to take him out to buy him his "first drink". So he's making me bring a suit to go out on the town. Any cool or unique bars around Sydney worth checking out?

How else do you think SEGA world was shutdown? They didn't go bankrupt as they say, but more the case Nintendo paid the koalas and kangaroos.

Sorry I can't say anything more on the bars, the only one I've been to was the Taxi Club (on Oxford St) during the Mardi Gras a couple of years ago (seeing as our legal drinking age is 18 and I'm only 20 this year ^^; ) but from what I found - the people were quite friendly in the area.
So overall, I know nothing of bars in the area outside of the ones I've been taken to by friends or family friends during that time.
I also wouldn't recommend going over to Bondi in the evening or into particular sections of the inner city as you'll see leading off from Oxford st there is a little square and a few druggies and from time to time schoolgirls (trust me, seen some of them around in their actual uniforms!) are streetwalkers there later on and other sections you get some nasty brawls and other crap happening so it's better to go if you have to go near there with a couple of people to a group just to be a bit more on the safe side (then again, you may not have a problem seeing as you're a bloke).
