N64 Recommended SD Class (speed) for Everdrive 64 v2

    Hello,

I just ordered an Everdrive 64 v2 and I'd like to know its SD card reading speed so I can choose the best card model.

    Thank you.

Try to find one with about 15 - 20MB Read Speed. Anything above does not make sense at the moment. I have a Class 10 with 95MB Read/Write, but it loads exactly as fast as a 20MB card.

If I remember correctly, the ED64 v2 can read up to 15MB.

I do the math. My ED64 loads a 60 MB game (Conker's Bad Fur Day) in right about 8 seconds. Maybe 8.5 sec on a bad day. 7.5 on a good day. Using the good day number we come up with a maximum speed (for me) of 8 MBps. Any card with a rating of 10 MBps should do. That would be a class 10 which is very common. I could be wrong but this is based on my experiences. Interesting thing is that I'm currently using a "Scandisk" 2GB micro SD with adapter. I say "Scandisk" since this thing may most likely be a fake. There's no speed class rating number on it. But the stop watch numbers say that I'm loading the game at a minimum of 7.5 MBps.

Then my Scandisk model must be either slower than was advertised or else a fake. (THANK YOU eBay Chinese asshats selling fake shit.)

So true. Last one I got the seller was a "grab your money and run" person. Thankfully I got my money back from PayPal. And the current fakes I have all work without problem. HOWEVER, if someone gets a cheap one off eBay, don't get one larger than 2GB. The larger ones are usually 2 or 4GB ones flashed to look like a 8, 16, 32, 64, or even in rare cases those 128 GB ones.

Yup can understand saving money but there's a point it gets silly... Lower class 32GB cards are less than 20 bucks today (assuming they're genuine). Of course that's not taking cases where speed matters into account.

So true. (Wait, I already used this line. Oh well.) Got my 32GB Scandisk micro SD for $22 on eBay and it seems to have the correct firmware on it since I run it in my Supercard DStwo on my 3DS with like 20GB of games, movies, pictures, and music files. Speed seems good when playing large DS games. No hiccups with files disappearing like fake ones have. The one I mentioned last post had to be fake if seller even was selling anything since it was a 32GB micro Scandisk class 10 for $11. That's what my $22 one is.

Moral of the story. Don't get the cheap SD cards from eBay. Hell, don't even get some of the more expensive ones from the highly known companies (especially Scandisk ones) since they seem to be mostly fakes that will crash and burn even if they are truly the size they're labeled as. Not to say that all are like this but there are too many to take the risk and be mad about it when important data ends up disappearing from it.

So they are. All these years I always thought it was Scandisk. Man is that stupid.
