little linux problems again! (neo-geo emulator gui)

hi, i downloaded two days ago gngeo, a neo-geo emulator for linux, with urpmi on my mandrake machine . then i downloaded a graphical user interface for it, named xgngeo with urpmi again.
after the download was finished, a new icon was added in my menu automaticly, great. but when i try to start it, it launches on my taskbar with a little waiting logo, so i wait...and wait, and wait after a time, it closes for no reason.

never been able to see the gui and i was wondering why. it can't be because of dependences, because urpmi control and download everything needed. The program is programmed in python and use the gtk and pygtk library.

i had the same problem with firefox on my last instalation, it wouldn't work but i re-installed mandrake for another reason , i tried firefox again and strangly it worked. Maybe it was because i haven't installed the same packages in the installation and that i couldn't use urpmi at the time because it wasn't properly configured.

anyway, never had this same anoying problem with other programs? how did you corrected it?
oh and yeah, i tried to checkedthe menu edtitor in the mandrake control center to see if there was something wrong, but everything seems to be okay. When i try to launch it by his installation path (/usr/bin/xgngeo.py) . kwrite (a text editor) starts... pretty frustating.

    any idea?

    thx,
    cahaz

    Mandrake's your problem ;) hehehe

Seriously though, sorry can't help - but I must say I've never been a Mandrake fan.

I would suggest asking on an emulator site forum, though - does the emulator/GUI writer have a forum?

don't know, ill check this out. But it doesn't only happen to that program, there's a bunch of other that have the same problem.

What distro you would recommand to a new comer in the wolrd of linux that would have a simple gui installation, that use the rpm system, that have a urpmi-like system, that is stable, that isn't too hard with linux new-comers and that can easly use kde as the graphic desktop environement?

i heard a few times mandrake was a good disto to begin with, but also heard that mandrake wasn't really good , why?

thx for the answer retro, it was really apreciated. ;)
