    What a load of bull.
It may take until my son turns 10 for the major entertainment companies to stop publishing in DVD and Blu-ray format, but make no mistake, discs aren’t long for this world.
But I'm still afraid of this whole "digital distribution" crap.
    Insert stupid poem here.

Heh well our household has only landline and neither my wife or myself have cell phones and will avoid as long as possible, simply put if we are not at home we don't want to be disturbed, a message when we return home is good enough. as long as it is not needed for business we will hold off on cell phones. For the record we are totally into technology, modern desktop (I build my own computers) laptop, Android devices, gaming systems etc. Though we are still using standard def, no HD displays or devices, when your of the older generation it is easier to do without, the generation born surrounded and growing up with cell phones, HD etc has a tougher time going without I think.

If this is anything as accurate as future predictions from the past, it's 90% inaccurate.

I have a 90in(horizontal) projector in my bedroom... I still go to the theater...
win xp/vista/7 can be booted in less than 1 min from a standard HDD.
I have yet to see a 1tb SSD for less than $1k, 1tb HDDs have been <$100 for 3+ years?
Has this person ever tried to do anything productive on a touch screen?

Maybe he subscribes to Steve Ballmer's vision that in the future, everything will have a touch screen! On a completely unrelated note, there's a hell of a lot of failed projects for Microsoft ever since became CEO: tablets, Kin, Zune, Windows Mobile/Phone...

Leave touchscreen to where it belongs - tablet PCs and terminals. For ubuntu and touchscreen. Author don't know what amount of pure and refined rage was caused by switch to Unity as default DE for ubuntu, a lot of people find it not suitable for desktop/laptop use and switch to KDE/XFCE etc. And Unity was designed with tablet computers in mind.

    SSDs are:
    a) Expensive.
    b) Unsuitable for operation which requires thousands of writes in a short time, like browser cache or swap file/partition.
    c) Less reliable. Unlike the mechanical HDD when recovery is just a matter of cash you want to spend, it's even possible to recover data from bent disks. Flash chips, you can recover only a small software problems like damaged MBR or accidentally erased files before they got overwritten. If your SSD will get overvolted you'll never get anything from it.
It will be like simple device for storing confidential data: 64+ Gb usb flash drive, USB socket, battery-powered 100V 0.5A dc-dc converter and a switch with security cover. For example someone tries to break into your house, you flip the switch, socket gets disconnected from USB line and connects to +100V - flash drive fried with absolutely no way to recover anything.

And i don't get what's with those bootup times in home PCs ? Does anyone really need 5 sec bootup. I never turn off my PC except when i need to clean it or connect some parts that don't support hot swapping, like internal HDD or PCI(e) cards. If i want to sleep in silence i'll just use standby mode. For windows PC it takes 5-12 seconds to get out of standby, for my linux box it's 3-5 seconds. A lot faster than full bootup an also you don't have to open anything you need again.

Landlines ? Well try to call your friend 10 minutes before new year and you'll see how reliable mobile networks are. Also i barely use phone at all but sometimes i can talk for 2-3 hours. And i don't want 2watt UHF transmitter near my head for all that time. And yeah it's a lot more expensive to get connected to landline but it's a lot cheaper to use it than mobile phone.
For paranoid types - you can use old good modem to send and recieve confidential data in encrypted archives. Unlike movies, in real life it's nearly impossible to get something from eavesdropping compressed modem "talk" as is, not to mention if it will be a random parts of encrypted archive containing encrypted files.
