    Dreamcast questions

I just got a HKT-01 Dev Box and the drive will not stay closed. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix it? Also Is there anywhere I can get the SDK for Win XP?

damn, a hkt-01, so niceee, never seen one personally, but if the tray is motorized, then the belt is gone, just replace it and it's like new, if not, may some plastic lock might be broken, or some spring locked by dust.

If it closes and then opens again, check the switches on the inside of the drive. There should be a couple that tell the drive if the tray is open or closed. If one is stuck or not getting triggered then that could be the problem.
I had a similar problem with a PC.

I'll post up some pics tomorrow ;) It feels like it's spring loaded and just not locking in place.

I'll crack it open tomorrow and see if I stumble across any switches. Honestly I think it may have something to do with the dip switches. Do you happen to know what each dip is for and if any of them controls the dvd drive. Also there is a bunch of different types of ports on the back 1 I know is for the GD-Writer but I could use a user guide for it if you happen to know where I could get one.

Could be the DIP switches, although I can't say much as I have 0 experience with these.

Ok I'm going to see if I can find a PDF of the user manual. Thanks for helping.

I had this problem with one of mine.

There is a little black plastic clasp inside that grips the drive to hold it in there. It breaks easily, when you see it it'll be obviously broken. You'll need to find a replacement. Thankfully, the part can be found in other things and isn't exclusive to the dev-kit.

Which other things could I find it in?

you can always rebuild it from other plastic parts, or take that piece to someone who works with metal and get it made of alluminum, is not that expensive, and it's worth the value

New question. When I start it up it gets stuck at the checking disc part would this be the HDD or the disc drive it's checking?

Actually that could be related to the disc tray not closing too.

I don't know of anything off hand that you could remove it from.

Repairing that part should be your first priority. If you're having problems after that, you can perhaps flash the firmware.

Ok I got it pulled apart and have located the broken piece. Bad part is I can not fix it but the sensor that detects whether it's closed can be fixed to a toggle switch, and the laser seems to going out. :(

EDIT: Anyone know where I can get a replacement drive?
