    Sachen Gameboy Carts Rarity?

A close friend of mine won this game in a massive auction lot on eBay. I know the background of the carts and what company made them and what not, but does anyone know how rare they are? I just have a second suspicion that it's a pirate of a pirate, as the casing is so horrible in quality...

I'd say they are more rare than your average pirate cartridge, but still obtainable. The big reason these items are perceived to be rare is due to location. In China and other parts of Asia you have a much greater chance of scoring things like this, where as in North America your pretty much just rolling the dice. The same thing goes for American items in Asia, where locals perceive English titles to be rarer since for them it's rolling the dice if they'll come across any (Unless your specifically buying from North American sites/people).

What type of figures would these types of carts go for?

It really depends on how much people want to pay for it. But personally somewhere around the $20 range seems fair to me. The condition appears to be rather nice as well.

EDIT: By all means I'm no Gameboy collecting expert, so take it with a grain of salt. Perhaps there are some odd varients and titles which go for sky-high values, but for most items of this type that's what I usually expect to see.

I'd expect that if this was placed on ebay, and described correctly, it could fetch anywhere from $15-25

I've sold brand new boxed GB multicarts for 10$ - this loose cart I'd say 5$ or less.

How about these 152-1 and 99-1 GBA Multicarts - any value/rarity? I picked these up at a Kuala Lumpur Chinese market late 2005 for I don’t remember the price, but it was really inexpensive if memory serves.

Thanks very much for your opinion on these carts, just never seen one before. Good to know the ball park figure.

It's because they modified the scrolling "Nintendo®" logo to show "SACHEN®" instead, but their cartridges were only able to trick the original Game Boy.

You can use Chinese gameboy clones as well I would assume.

This is odd because all non-sachen multicarts work fine in a super gameboy

Non-Sachen multicarts don't modify the logo, so there's no reason they wouldn't work AFAIK.

Sachen's later carts were fixed to work in later consoles though - whether it'll work in your Game Boy or not seems to depend on when it was released. For example, my copy of Beast Fighter works in a GBC and GBA, but not GBA SP or Game Boy Player. But I have a 31 in 1 Sachen multicart (possibly one of the last things they released for the GB) which works in everything.

There are tricks to get non-working games working using cheat cartridges, too - for example you can make Gowin games work on a Super Game Boy using an Action Replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz4licd-5lY
I've also had some success (it works maybe 1/10 times) running Beast Fighter on my GBA SP or GB Player through a Game Genie.

It's weird, but that isn't true for legitimate SNES games. Japanese SNES games are found on American sites for cheaper than their American equivalents.
