Sega Saturn video files (not CPK)

Can anyone name me the other types of video files found on Sega Saturn games, and whether or not they can be converted? I want to rip the Sega Satanshiro commercials and post them on Japanese Gaming, but am having a hell of a time finding them. The only thing on the discs I can find of any size are audio files. There's about 5 CPK files, but they're very small -- definitely not the commercials.

    Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I have all of them on my FTP. Saturn also used True Motion and that's what Sonic Jam's movies are in. Also Sega Satanshiro movies are in that format. the player is on my FTP for download plus I think that player can convert them to MPEG. Can't remember how I converted mine of the top of my head.

    Yakumo

PS: saturn also used CRI'S Mpeg Softdec Like a Dreamcast but on very few titles.

I think it is Segata Sanshiro but if you change the words slightly you get =
SEGA SATAN (saturn) SHIRO (White). Sort of a joke really. The guys name is really White Saturn :smt033

Didn't know they were on Yakumo's FTP. Kind of defeats the purpose. I should probably check there more often. :) Anyways, thanks for the info.

And yeah, the name is a (bad) pun, and illustrates the benefit of Japanese not have spaces between words.

    Codec problem?

Yakumo: Did you post the TGS '97 clip, where it shows all those geeks yelling out "Sega Saturn!" after he gets off stage. A beautiful illustration of what happens to you when you escape reality.

No, I've never seen that before. Do you have a copy?

Yeah. I got some Saturn Demos (Mogitate Saturn) or something like that. In addition to the commercials, they've got that clip, and some makings of the commercials (which I've yet to watch).

Kind of funny to watch a grown man in a karate outfit, yelling, "Sega Saturn - SHIRO!" holding a Sega Saturn, with hundreds of people cheering him on.

I'll play around with it and see if there's a way to rip it, w/o using my capture card (yeah, I'm lazy).

I'm sure I converted a load of True motion videos to MPEG. I'll have a look now and see how I did it.

OK, just checked. You need the True Motion player version1.22 That player has an option to convert the movie to any other format that you have the codec to. I just converted the Deep Fear movie to DiVX and it works fine. You can get the player plus reg' code from my FTP. Go to the 00 -= Japanese TV Game Adverts and others =- Section and you'll find 3 folders. One contains Sega TV adds while the other two contain Sonic True Motion videos and Segata Sanshiro True Motion videos. You can also see the player and Reg' code there.

And the final question -- what's the extension of TrueMotion files?

The extention is .avi This makes it a pain in the arse since there are 100's of .avi extentions for different codecs :smt009

Okay, the only thing I see on these discs are CPK files (some of which acpk2avi won't convert) and then in a folder called SOFDEC, a bunch of SFD files. They are big -- 15-i90 megs, so I"m sure that's where the vids are.

Need to find a converter for those... never heard of one.

Are you sure you're doing Saturn games? I didn't know many used sdf files. Anyway, there is a sdf to mpeg converter that I use. I'll send it to you by mail.

Positive. I put them in my Saturn and played them.
I think SDF is mainly for voice, but there's no way there's that much voice on these things.
