Just today I decided to play some BETAs that my V64 died, it turns on does all the normal but display anything on the screen, sometimes it will show video but it's just a bunch of random noise colours :(. I do however get Nintendo 64 video but without sound. Anyone know what causes this in a V64? This is a version 1 system if that makes a difference.
no idea i hope its not a serious problem as these things are hard to get and that means spare parts are too
A friend has a unit with the same symptoms, so would be nice to know how to fix that.

Does the v64 have a battery in it?
The Snes Wild card does and when it leaks, it makes quite a mess. Requires some cleaning up and repair work.
If its not too difficult to open, get some decent pictures of the inside.
I'm not too sure about the battery, but I cannot seem to open it I can't seem to remove the RAM either. I just don't want to make it worse than it already is and rather sell it to someone with the knowledge. IOriginally Posted by Bad_Ad84

You need to open it to fix it, if you can't or don't want to open it then nothing will get better. If a battery leaked it will get worse. Maybe you can get in contact with someone that might have a clue as to what you need to do.
It doesn't have a battery.
The V64 is a self-contained system with its own display generator, it switches to N64 video once the game is loaded, or when you power on the N64, I forget. It's not clear from your description WHEN it starts acting like that. If only the V64 menu is affected, then it could be that something is wrong with the display generator. If N64 video is affected when switched by the V64, then it could be related to the analog multiplexer (or was it a relay?) circuit. I don't think sound is switched, logically the path should be N64 -> 3D audio DSP -> output. Since there are symptoms with both the display generator and DSP, it's best to look for an indirect cause: power. Check your 5V rail with the unit turned on.

Maybe it is the power but I don't know how to check if it's working 100%, it powers on normally.
The V64 menu doesn't show that's what happens, if I switch to Nintendo 64 it will show the console's video but no sound.
I can't seem to open it, I've already tried I've removed all screws and one side seems to be stuck down. Do I have to remove the RAM first?
